About the Organization

A Canadian industry leader founded nearly 40 years ago, our client is a renowned manufacturer in the highly technical HVAC sector, specializing in commercial kitchen ventilation, air capture, and commercial cooking systems. Driven by values of technical expertise, rigor, and continuous innovation, the company designs distinctive, high-value-added engineering solutions.

The organization is looking for a National Business Development Director to drive market expansion outside Quebec.

Role Summary

Reporting directly to General Management / Sales Leadership, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing business opportunities across Ontario, the Maritimes, and Western Canada. You will act as a subject-matter expert for key stakeholders (mechanical engineering consultants, foodservice consultants, commercial equipment dealers, HVAC/mechanical contractors, and major commercial accounts) while energizing and expanding the existing network of independent manufacturer representatives.

Your Responsibilities

Business Development & Market Growth

  • Prospect, identify, and convert new commercial opportunities across assigned territories.

  • Represent and promote technical product offerings to key specifiers: mechanical engineers, foodservice consultants, HVAC contractors, and private chain accounts.

  • Lead, support, and grow the network of independent manufacturer reps covering Canadian provinces.

  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and lunch-and-learns to small groups of specialists and specifiers.

  • Select, coordinate, and attend targeted trade shows and industry events across Canada and the United States.

  • Actively contribute to marketing strategy and brand positioning.

Sales Management & Project Follow-Up

  • Prepare proposals and maintain technical bids/quotes.

  • Ensure rigorous follow-up on bids via the internal automated system, driving pipeline opportunities through to closed orders.

  • Maintain accurate customer and pipeline data within the ERP system (Epicor).

  • Prepare and validate commission/rebate calculations for territory representatives.

  • Collaborate closely with estimating, project management, and technical support teams to ensure seamless customer service.

Candidate Profile
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of B2B sales experience in HVAC equipment or commercial kitchen/cooking equipment.

  • Technical Knowledge: Minimum of 1 year of experience or proven expertise in commercial kitchen ventilation hoods and ventilation systems.

  • Relationship Building: Demonstrated track record of building trusted relationships with specifier networks (consulting engineers, foodservice design consultants, dealers/distributors).

  • Communication Skills: Bilingual (French/English) or fluent English with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear customer benefits.

  • Software Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft 365; hands-on experience with an ERP system (Epicor is an asset).

  • Mobility: Available for regular travel across Canada and to the U.S. (approximately 10 weeks per year, including occasional weekend commitments for trade shows).

  • Legal Requirements: Valid passport and clear background check.

What the Organization Offers
  • Competitive Compensation: $100,000/year base salary for the first two years to support market rollout, complemented by an annual bonus and an attractive commission structure thereafter.

  • Profit Sharing: Company profit-sharing program (annual retention bonus).

  • Vacation & Paid Time Off: 3 weeks of annual vacation, 5 additional statutory/floating holidays per year, and accrued paid sick leave.

  • Benefits & Retirement: Group insurance plan (50% employer-paid) after 3 months, group RRSP with employer matching after 1 year, and immediate access to a retirement fund (FTQ).

  • Travel & Expenses: Full coverage of business flights, accommodations, and per-kilometer mileage reimbursement.

  • Work Environment: Remote work flexibility, dedicated office space when working at head office (modern facilities), and an active, collaborative social culture.
