ABOUT THE TEAM  

The Total Fund Management team is responsible for defining the organization’s asset allocation based on thorough understanding of the sponsor’s risk tolerance, geopolitical, macroeconomic and market contexts and for rebalancing the total fund currencies and asset class exposures.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE  

The Senior Director, Total Fund Integration and Insights leads the teams in charge of geopolitics, macroeconomics, and asset-class mandates and benchmarks. The role builds and exerts influence to help align asset classes’ bottom-up perspectives with CIO’s top-down views and PSP’s strategic priorities, developing pragmatic approaches to complex macroeconomic and geopolitical issues that strengthen decision‑making, efficiency, and value creation for the Total Fund.  The incumbent will have to:

  • Lead teams in charge of geopolitics, macroeconomics, and asset‑class mandates and benchmarks 

  • Closely monitor global economic, geopolitical, and financial market conditions, and lead the development of PSP’s long-term global economic and geopolitical outlook for the Total Fund

  • Lead the development, enhancement and application of analytical frameworks used to assess and quantify economic and geopolitical phenomena, supporting evaluation of PSP’s investment risk/return profile

  • Translate geopolitical and macroeconomic views into actionable insights and recommendations that support their integration into PSP’s portfolio construction process

  • Support and influence asset classes on the implementation of their mandates and define benchmarks accordingly, providing top‑down macroeconomic and geopolitical analysis and recommendations to promote alignment with PSP’s Total Fund objectives

  • Apply and support the execution of validation frameworks with asset classes, assessing alignment between strategies and mandates and reinforcing discipline around the separation of alpha and beta

  • Develop and support transversal functions across the CIO group

  • Prepare and deliver briefings and analytical input to senior management, and contribute to materials used for Board discussions, on the medium‑ and long‑term global economic and geopolitical outlook and key developments impacting the Total Fund

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree strongly preferred) in a finance-related field (e.g. economics, geopolitics, finance, etc.)

  • A minimum of  fifteen (15) years in the finance industry with recent experience managing teams in a similar function

  • Excellent communicator notably great ability to clearly communicate complicated/technical concepts

  • Very good knowledge of public and private markets and concrete experience with private markets

  • Very good networking abilities / act in a role of influence 

  • In-depth understanding of major developed and emerging economies, their financial markets, and geopolitical characteristics

  • Previous experience in a pension fund or similar institution, an asset

  • Experience in managing teams with highly technical knowledge

  • Proficiency in English and French *Frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa
