Working as a project engineer, you will act as the responsible engineer for mechanical systems for mine hoist projects in the Process Industries Business in the Americas, providing technical details, costs and deliverables for projects.
Reporting to the Engineering manager, you will make technical recommendations in various phases of underground mining projects top ensure successful execution of project deliverables on time, within budget and in line with the quality and safety guidelines.
- Acts as an ABB technical leader for mechanical systems of Mine Hoisting projects.
- Assisting project managers and project leaders in technical reviews and discussions with customers, partners, sub-contractors, and vendors
- Custom design of mine hoists, sheaves, hydraulics, brakes and large-scale conveyance systems.
- Assisting project managers with claims, customer specifications and safety standards.
- Creates works plans and cost estimates for work in own area of responsibility and proactively managers this work to deliver the agreed program on time, on quality and at the targets cost.
- Helping customers resolve technical issues both remotely and at various mine sites in Canada, United States, Mexico and South America for the equivalent of 6 to 10 weeks per year.
- Responsibility for the installations and commissioning supervision on site for these mechanical systems.
- Performing inspections of equipment on site and creating reports for life cycle status and recommending maintenance and repair actions.
- Assists in creating proposals for engineering projects through provision of drawings, bills of material and engineering hours for own discipline.
- Maintaining and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service at all stages of the project.
Qualifications for the role
- 3-8 years of experience in Mine Hoisting, Heavy Industries or Mining working as a Mechanical Engineer.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and member of Professional Engineering Regulator (PEO, APEGS, OIQ or equivalent). P. Eng designation is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes and tools, including SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and brake control systems.
- Knowledge of machine design of heavy equipment.
- Experience using hand tools and measurement equipment.
- A strong focus on safe work practices and dedication to following all relevant workplace safety guidelines.
- A high level of self-motivation, curiosity, and desire to learn about new technologies.
- A collaborative, solution-focused approach, and strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Presentation and communication skills in English. French and/or Spanish would be an asset.

This position is a new role.
While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $89,400 and $131,120 annually and is bonus eligible.
