About FreshBooks
FreshBooks is looking for a Design Lead who can turn briefs into finished, on-brand assets quickly and thoroughly as we sharpen our focus on solopreneurs and microbusinesses. Working under the Director, Brand & Communications, you’ll work cross-functionally across performance marketing, product marketing, and expansion to develop design assets for integrated campaigns with organic and paid ads, demand generation, and owned channels.
As the Design Lead, you understand the importance of speed in the Go-To-Market function, while stewarding and evolving the brand. FreshBooks is looking for someone who builds systems and uses AI, so teams can self-serve within guardrails. You’ll thrive here if you want to move fast and take risks.
NOTE: This role can be worked remotely from the above location.
What You'll Do
- Steward the visual identity system: Maintain FreshBooks' existing brand system with natural evolution to stay consistent and effective across channels and GTM teams.
- Partner on GTM: Work directly with copywriters and channel owners (content, paid, lifecycle, web) to translate messaging into creatives that drive the marketing funnel from conversion to awareness. Then, review performance against funnel metrics and iterate.
- Build self-serve systems: Create libraries, templates, and AI-assisted workflows for content, demand gen, and web teams to produce on-brand creative themselves within defined guardrails, and know which situations still need your hands-on.
- Lead design capacity: Source, brief, and QA freelance illustrators, animators, and production vendors to extend output.
- Prioritize with data: Decide the design work that is high-priority and get the attention based on funnel impact and business priority, using performance data to drive the decision-making.
- Day in the life: Producing on-brand assets, from web and campaign creative to organic and sales collateral. This role makes the calls on creative, based on performance, even under deadline pressure.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- 5-7+ years of design experience, including work evolving or maintaining a brand system at an existing company.
- Direct experience in GTM teams and understanding how creative choices affect funnel metrics.
- Experience building libraries, templates, or workflows that measurably cut turnaround time on brand assets without a drop in quality.
- Proficiency in Figma, Cyberduck, Adobe design software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro).
- A portfolio showing both systems-level thinking and fast, hands-on execution.
- Working knowledge of typography, layout, accessibility, and motion standards, applied consistently to branded assets.
You'll Stand Out If You Have
- Familiarity with FreshBooks or the small business/solopreneur space
- Experience in a lean marketing team without an established in-house design function
- B2B SaaS
