Job DescriptionThe Level II System Support Specialist plays a key role in the delivery and support of radiology IT systems across healthcare environments. This position requires advanced knowledge of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Electronic Health Records (EHR), and healthcare interoperability standards such as DICOM and HL7. The Level II specialist will handle escalated technical issues, perform proactive system maintenance, and serve as a knowledgeable liaison between IT teams, radiologists, clinical staff, and external vendors to ensure high system availability and performance
Responsibilities
- Serve as a second-tier resource for technical support and advanced troubleshooting of PACS, RIS, EHR, and related radiology applications.
- Monitor system performance and ensure high availability, security, and compliance of radiology IT systems.
- Collaborate with radiologists, clinicians, and internal IT teams to optimize workflows and improve system utilization.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve escalated user-reported issues with professionalism and efficiency.
- Coordinate with vendors and third-party support teams for advanced troubleshooting, configuration, and issue resolution.
- Participate in root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions for recurring issues.
- Maintain accurate, organized documentation of system configurations, support cases, known issues, and resolutions.
- Develop and maintain user guides, technical documentation, and training materials.
- Support and maintain interoperability between systems using DICOM, HL7, and IHE profiles.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards related to healthcare IT.
- Maintain adherence to quality and regulatory standards, including U.S. FDA regulations and ISO 13485
Employment Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field – or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare IT support, ideally in a radiology setting.
- Proficiency in supporting PACS, RIS, and EHR systems.
- Strong understanding of DICOM and HL7 protocols and their application in healthcare environments.
- Experience with Windows Server environments (2012–2022+), networking fundamentals, SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting both Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware).
- Familiarity with storage infrastructure and backup solutions used in medical imaging.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Experience with enterprise ticketing systems (ServiceNow preferred; Salesforce ServiceCloud or Zendesk acceptable).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-impact healthcare environment.
Desired Competencies
- Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware, Cisco) are a strong plus.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) preferred.
- Experience with scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Knowledge of cloud-based imaging and telemedicine technologies.
- Fluency in multiple languages; French is a strong asset.
