Role


Reporting to the departmental manager, you will direct, edit and assemble a program or program segment. You will set up, launch and ensure the reliable operation of the switching system and associated peripheral equipment (including character generators, audio consoles, CCUs, robotics, intercoms, graphics systems and weather systems).


You will also perform pre-broadcast technical checks and maintain overall technical quality control for broadcasts.


Key Tasks:

  • Plan the visual and audio elements needed to bring the newscast to air.
  • Direct, edit and assemble a program or program segment.
  • Input required technical cues and information into the program lineup.
  • Cue and direct the host during tapings or live broadcasts.
  • Set up, launch and ensure the reliable operation of vMix switching systems.
  • Test the audio/video feeds and IT links required for broadcast presentation.
  • Create complex video, audio and graphics effects to achieve the production’s objectives and creative vision.
  • Operate vMix switching systems and associated peripheral equipment.
  • Act as a technical adviser to production and creative teams, recommending industry best practices.
  • Co-ordinate required technical setups and pre-show checks with the team.
  • Guide and support team members as needed.
  • Manage disk storage space, archiving or deleting content as needed.
  • Maintain technical quality control and take corrective action as required.
  • Troubleshoot technical failures and promptly notify appropriate personnel.
  • Attend planning or story meetings.
  • Ensure adequate production staffing.
  • Advise the production team on available technical capabilities to enhance creative execution.
  • Prepare technical reports and log relevant data.
  • Carry out all other related or equivalent tasks.
  • Train or mentor colleagues in their duties.

 

This role requires full-time on-site presence and this is an on call position.


Job Requirements:


Qualifications:

  • College diploma (DCS) in electronics or audiovisual production.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience.
  • Experience as a director.

Skills:

  • Familiarity with the full range of digital production devices.
  • Knowledge of vMix Software, vMix Call and vMix Social.
  • Knowledge of the Blackmagic environment.
  • Ability to manage NDI workflows.
  • Knowledge of PTZ camera controls.
  • Ability to operate an audio console.
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networks, network switches, network topology and network synoptic plans.
  • Knowledge of recording and streaming parameters.
  • Ability to independently assemble and disassemble production equipment.
