Position Summary

The Senior Vice President - Canada serves as the operational, commercial, people, and strategic leader for the country. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence through the implementation of best practices that optimize processes, develop talent, and strengthen relationships. The SVP will ensure the achievement of both short- and long-term business objectives, aligning with Sanimax’s global strategy, company vision and values.

Essential Experience

Industry & Functional Expertise

  • Has 15+ years of relevant experience in commercial and manufacturing environments (supply chain, manufacturing, commodity sales).
  • Has a proven track record of building teams that consistently deliver or exceed operational targets, including plant reliability, yield and quality optimization, labor cost management, waste reduction.
  • Develops and executes strategies to meet customer demands in terms of customer experience while optimizing company gross margins.
  • Demonstrated success working with multi-country executive teams.
  • Experience in both manufacturing and commercial sector is a strong asset.

Market & Environment Knowledge

  • Has a proven track record of implementing and managing company performance within an Operational Excellence framework while maintaining an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Cultivates and maintains key account relationships, ensuring strategic planning aligns with customer priorities and industry challenges.
  • Actively visits our key customers.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with regulatory bodies (e.g., CFIA, MAPAQ), municipalities, provincial governments, and industry associations (e.g., pork, poultry, beef sectors).
  • Represents Sanimax at key industry events, including the Pork Show and the Canadian Meat Council.
  • Experience in the agri-food industry and/or highly regulated industry is an asset.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Promotes collaboration across departments and regions to accelerate business results.
  • Is able to operate and effectively drive change by mobilizing Sanimax’s leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership by mentoring and coaching direct and indirect reports to navigate challenges and achieve business success.
  • Owns, develops, and implements succession planning to ensure a strong leadership pipeline for critical roles.
  • Fosters a high-performance culture focused on achieving annual objectives.
  • Ensures individual and team growth by establishing development plans and assignments.
  • Aligns talent acquisition strategies with current and future business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures strict compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations while promoting a culture of health and safety in line with the company programs. 
  • Is accountable for the P&L for the Canadian business, ensuring strict management of margins, transportation and manufacturing processing costs.
  • Ensures customer experience and service level is in line with our company vision.
  • Interacts with some of our JV partners to continue to build trust and sound partnerships. 
  • Drives employee engagement to make engagement level a vector of performance. Manages engagement gap with engagement plan in areas where improvement is needed.
  • Ensures full compliance with all relevant governmental and industry regulations.
  • Leads cross-functional teams, driving collaboration and execution across departments and geographies.
  • Implements and upholds Sanimax’s global standards, focusing on margin management and customer experience while contributing insights and best practices.
  • Aligns local business strategies with global corporate objectives to ensure sustainable growth and operational success.
  • Advises and collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on key challenges, opportunities, and strategic initiatives.

Strategic Impact

  • Participates and provides input in the elaboration of the Value Creation Plan of the company. Stays informed on internal/external factors and market intelligence that can influence the company strategy.
  • Is expected to drive decision-making on key market or company data.
  • Leads business growth initiatives. 
  • Proposes M&A opportunities to the M&A team and actively participates in the process. Ensures proper asset or company integration following a successful transaction.
  • Collaborates with global and regional leaders to execute the Value Creation Plan and align with Sanimax’s overarching strategic goals.

Education & Language Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or engineering.
  • MBA or other master’s degree is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in both French and English (spoken and written) is required; Spanish and Portuguese are considered assets.
