Senior Software Engineer (Core Platforms)
Job Description
At SUSE, we believe every business is on a journey of digital transformation, and that transformation can be enhanced and accelerated by open-source innovation. SUSE products and our processes are designed around the collective wisdom of our customers, community, partners, and employees. In order to realize full customer value for users of SUSE’s expanding portfolio, we’ve established a new group to focus on building a tightly integrated “all SUSE” underlying framework to support modern applications. This framework will underpin a wide variety of SUSE solutions and through its implementation we expect to accelerate the adoption of SUSE technologies in the market.
As part of these efforts, we’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design, implement, troubleshoot, and debug components of our core infrastructure platform. These components and their expectations include:
Linux (experience with a SUSE distribution is a plus), with proficiency in advanced configuration topics such as boot loaders, disk partitioning, networking, and security hardening (e.g. SELinux).
Kubernetes, with experience in advanced topics such as networking, HA deployments, and upgrade policies & practices.
Technologies allowing for provisioning of baremetal and virtual environments, such as Rancher, Cluster API, and Metal3.
Candidates should have experience in system lifecycle management and upgrade at scale, understanding common production needs in terms of minimal or zero downtime, rollout strategies, and rollback practices. Experience working with low-bandwidth or air-gapped systems management scenarios is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and productize complex software systems and products within the Core Infrastructure team.
Identify and evaluate new technologies and paradigms for integration into the evolving architecture.
Actively participate in design discussions and code reviews.
Work closely with the QE team to keep them up to date on product direction and provide feedback on test plans.
Collaborate with teams across SUSE to ensure technical compatibility with the core infrastructure framework.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
Typically 5+ years experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
Proven experience delivering large-scale software projects, preferably related to systems management.
Prior experience with Golang is strongly recommended.
Ability and comfort in owning sub-components and incubating their creation from idea through implementation, engaging with the team as appropriate for feedback on design and code decisions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
Experience with security compliance and hardening is a plus.
