Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Director, CIO, the responsibility of the Senior Manager - Flight Operation Systems will lead the IT Flight Operation Systems team, responsible for the successful delivery, integration, project management and support of all Bristow global and regional IT flight operation systems and technology transformations. The position will be based in the US and requires occasional international travel.

As the leader of the IT Flight Operations team, the Sr. IT Manager – Flight Operations Systems will work closely with the global flight operations stakeholders, ensuring close collaboration between IT and the business flight operation activities.  This will include engaging with the business stakeholders on all IT flight operation systems, managing projects, driving development and design, providing system architecture recommendations, leading solution design activities, in addition to working with the business and IT leadership to deliver KPIs and appropriate business solutions.  Understand and developing processes and procedures to support the business use of the flight operation systems, is a key requirement of the position.

The Senior IT Manager role will also include responsibilities in leading and managing the team members in developing and managing the strategic roadmap, developing and deploying the company’s global flight following solutions, with focus on improved business outcomes including better business experiences; accelerating operational efficiency, delivering robust, scalable and standardized flight following operation solutions that are developed in accordance with business requirements and industry best practices.

To ensure the delivery of agreed service levels and quality the position holder will work closely with the business and IT stakeholders, planning resources and providing appropriate training. 

The role will also include evaluating alternative solutions, implementing standard technologies and processes, and continuously improving our IT flight operations systems. The individual will plan, coordinate, and directly work with external service providers to ensure the delivery of agreed-upon service levels and quality.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish a product and services roadmap and lead initiatives to transform Flight Operations systems by identifying key areas for improvement and implementing strategic changes.
  • Work with regional and global business stakeholders, IT teams, Fleet Management and third-party service providers to manage, design, develop and implement regional and global flight operation systems and processes as global standards.
  • Provide technical and operational oversight and leadership both flight operations and non-flight operations technical teams, in support of global standardization, system deployments and continuous improvements
  • Contribute to the management of a full project management and software development life cycle (SDLC) for the implementation of complex flight operations systems
  • Manage production releases while partnering with internal teams to ensure stakeholders are involved with testing, cutover, and hyper care actives
  • Manage the planning and deployment of flight following operation system integrations with company and third-party provider systems
  • Work with the business process owners to standardize the technology platform and support processes for regional and global IT Flight Operations systems
  • Develop proposals, statements of work, business requirements documents, resource planning and project plans
  • Drive process automation and replace manual operations to create efficiencies
  • Oversee the relationship with third party onsite and offshore IT resources on Software Development and Service Management activities including product backlog development; incident management; change management; and release management.
  • Review and assist in the development and delivery of system and process training to user community through webinars, videos, knowledge base, and other employee engagement practices
  • Work directly with software vendor to deliver new functionality and to ensure prompt resolution of any problems or emergencies
  • Act as point of escalation for on-call application support for critical issues as needed
  • Support the business stakeholders in management and definition of business requirements for systems include enhancements and new functions
  • Identify impediments and provide appropriate issues escalation to the necessary levels as required
  • Manage risks and issues proactively, including resources, costs, and systems, and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Define and publish regular IT flight operations metrics and KPIs

PERSON SPECIFICATION: (minimum education requirements, key skills and experience)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering, aviation/transportation, or computer science field or relevant experience

Experience:

  • 15+ years’ of experience within flight operations and/or Information Technology: supporting systems, people and processes
  • Experience leading, managing, and delivering projects in a flight operations and technology environment, managing both external clients/stakeholders and internal leaders and project teams
  • Good working knowledge of Flight Operations or Aviation/Transportation Industry
  • Experience with managing and leading Projects and Project Management concepts (certification preferred)
  • Experience with the Solution Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process
  • Experience with IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework, especially around Change & Release Management
  • Experience with Security and Risk Management including Sarbanes Oxley and ISO 27001 IT General Controls
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Experience with IT organizational and business change management concepts
  • Experience with Flight Operations systems, including but not limited to:
    • Flight Tracking, MRO, FIDS, AOS, Crew Scheduling, CarteNav, ARM FOSS, AIMS, eFlight,Airbox, etc.
