Job Description :

The Opportunity: Shape the Future of Canadian Media

This is not a typical HR leadership role. It’s a unique opportunity to be a true strategic partner to a new President during a pivotal moment of transformation for Cogeco Media, one of Canada's most influential radio broadcasters.

As the Sr Director of Human Resources, you will be a key member of the Cogeco Media senior leadership team. You won't just be running an HR function; you'll be at the heart of the business, shaping the strategy, evolving the culture, and coaching a leadership team to drive impact and value creation. If you are a courageous, business-minded HR leader who thrives on building trust, navigating complexity, and creating the conditions for people to do their best work, this role is for you.

Who We Are: The Power of Voice

Cogeco Media is a leader in the Canadian broadcasting landscape, with a powerful network of radio stations across Quebec, operating 21 radio stations, including 98.5 in Montreal, FM93 in Quebec City and the stations of Rythme network, reaching 5 million listeners each week.

What You'll Achieve in Your First 18 Months

Your success will be measured by your ability to drive tangible outcomes. Your key priorities will be:

  • Be a Strategic Partner & Coach: You will quickly establish yourself as a trusted advisor to the President and her leadership team. You will be instrumental in translating the new business strategy into a concrete people and organizational plan, leading the change management efforts to bring it to life.

  • Evolve Our Culture: You will champion the evolution of our culture from a reactive posture to one supported by more robust planning and practices. Your challenge is to introduce this discipline without losing the agility and vibrant energy that makes our radio business special, building upon our already strong cultural foundation.

  • Lead Our Labor & Talent Strategy: You will develop a high powered talent strategy for our unique workforce, which includes not only our valued employees but also the on-air hosts, journalists, and artists who bring our brands to life and have distinct contractual needs and expectations. Working together with another member of the leadership team who brings the business perspective, you also will lead critical union negotiations, leveraging your deep expertise to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Develop the HR Team: You will lead and mentor a small, dedicated HR team, ensuring they are positioned as effective and proactive partners to the business.

Who You Are: The Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a unique blend of strategic thinking, business acumen, and authentic leadership.

  • An Experienced HR Leader: You have a proven track record of HR leadership in a complex, fast-paced environment. You think like a business leader first and an HR leader second.

  • An Organizational & Talent Strategist: You have a deep sense of the levers and actions needed to drive organizational effectiveness. You know how to align a company's structure and talent to its strategic goals, leveraging your experience in organization design, talent management strategy, and succession planning.

  • A Culture Builder: You are a passionate advocate for building a high-engagement, high-enablement culture. You have a track record of developing and implementing strategies that enhance the employee experience,  moving beyond just metrics to create real connection and sustainable organizational health.

  • A Savvy Change Agent: You know how to guide an organization through transformation. You can navigate ambiguity, build consensus, and drive change with a style that balances empathy with accountability.

  • A Forward Looking Negotiator: You have deep, hands-on experience in labor relations and have successfully led collective bargaining negotiations.  You will leverage already strong union relations to ensure the needs of our employees and our business are both cared for. You are comfortable and credible in a unionized setting.

  • An Exceptional Coach & Influencer: You build trust and credibility at the most senior levels. You have a knack for coaching executives and helping leadership teams become more effective.

  • A Creative Problem-Solver: You are adept at working with non-traditional talent pools (e.g., on-air talent, creatives, journalists). Experience in the media industry is an asset, but your ability to adapt to this unique environment is what truly matters.

  • Bilingual: You are fluent in French, able to conduct business, negotiate, and build relationships seamlessly.  You have enough English to be able to operate on occasion in broader Cogeco activities and interactions with the full Cogeco HR team, many of whom are based outside of Quebec.
