POSITION OVERVIEW

At BDC, the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, Operational Risk Management (ORM) plays a critical role in supporting informed decision‑making as we evolve our business, digital platforms, and operating model. The ORM team partners closely with the first line of defense to strengthen operational resilience across the organization.

As Senior Analyst, Operational Risk Management, you are a subject‑matter expert who supports the implementation, evolution, and continuous improvement of BDC’s ORM Framework. Your work contributes directly to strong governance, effective controls, and the sustainable success of Canadian businesses.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Support first‑ and second‑line stakeholders in executing ORM programs, including:

    • Risk and Control Self‑Assessments (RCSA)

    • Key Risk Indicators (KRI)

    • Operational Risk Events (ORE)

    • New Product and Business Initiative (NPBI) risk assessments for products, projects, and organizational changes

  • Support the first line of defence in the end‑to‑end management of operational risks, including:

    • Risk identification, assessment, measurement, and monitoring

    • Evaluation of control environments

    • Oversight of remediation activities and action plans

  • Critically review and effectively challenge first‑ and second‑line risk assessments and reported operational risk events

  • Monitor remediation activities and ensure timely closure of action plans

  • Design, implement, and enhance operational risk methodologies, tools, and training for the first line

  • Ensure ORM frameworks, methods, and practices remain aligned with BDC’s operational realities and evolving industry best practices

  • Manage and improve ORM program reporting, including:

    • Data collection and analysis

    • Risk and trend reporting

    • Action plan tracking

    • Senior management and committee presentations

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with first‑line leadership, second‑line risk functions, and senior leaders

  • Develop, enhance, and document ORM governance, policies, standards, and procedures

  • Leverage data, automation, and emerging AI capabilities to enhance operational risk insights, monitoring, and reporting

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or an equivalent field

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within the Canadian financial services sector, including:

    • Front‑line operations or process support or

    • Operational Risk Management roles

  • Knowledge of Canadian banking products, processes, and organizational structures

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or executing operational risk programs (e.g., RCSA, KRI, ORE, NPBI)

  • Ability to critically assess and challenge risk assessments and control environments

  • Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Proven ability to produce clear, structured, and professional reports, analyses, and presentations

  • Strong interpersonal and cross‑functional collaboration skills

  • Sound judgement and problem‑solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, PowerPoint, and Visio

  • Fluency in French and English (verbal and written)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Power BI or similar data visualization and reporting tools

  • Experience applying automation, analytics, or AI tools to improve risk monitoring, reporting, or control processes

  • Experience designing or enhancing operational risk methodologies, frameworks, or governance documentation
