Acting under the direction of the Director R&D, the Product Engineer will develop innovative solutions to create products that are functional and meet customer and market opportunities and needs. They will modify existing systems or develop new ideas for processes to make them more efficient. The incumbent will be responsible for window and door product design and collaborative scope definition, along with the development, validation, and implementation of new window and door product offerings.
Responsibilities:
- Research, design, and develop new window and door systems using vinyl and hybrid materials.
- Create detailed 2D/3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs (AutoCAD / Inventor preferred).
- Lead the Energy Star and NFRC labeling programs; support IA and lab submissions.
- Optimize existing designs for improved manufacturability, performance, and thermal efficiency.
- Develop and validate prototypes through internal and third-party testing; and present the results to the board of directors.
- Perform cost–benefit analyses and contribute to business cases for new product lines.
- Coordinate/ maintain engineering change documentation, test reports, and technical communication packages
- Support manufacturing through tooling design reviews, work instructions, and product launch activities.
- Communicate regular updates relating to project progress to the leadership team
- Post-secondary education in a Engineering with an Accredited degree
- Computer skills in the following: AutoCAD, MS Office products (Considered an asset: AutoCAD Inventor, 3D Printing, Therm)
- 2-5 years of product design or development experience in the fenestration, building-products, or plastics industries
- Familiarity with governing standards (ASTM, Ontario/ National building code, CSA, ASME, ISO)
- Background in testing or certification of products.
- Possible 5% travel (Canada and US)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Having a Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation or working toward it
- Project management professional experience or certification is an asset
- Experience with structural and thermal modeling
