About the role


We are looking for a Principal Advisor – Aluminum Rolling Slab – Technical Marketing to help Rio Tinto’s Commercial organization strengthen customer partnerships, product performance and growth across the rolling slab market. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across slab casting, rolling applications, product qualification and value-based customer engagement. This is a great opportunity to influence commercial outcomes, support innovation and collaborate with customers, operations, sales, marketing, and research and development teams globally.


What you’ll be doing


  • Lead technical qualification activities for rolling slab products with customers and support successful product adoption.
  • Provide expert guidance on slab casting and rolling processes to customers, sales teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Investigate customer technical challenges and coordinate solutions with operations, quality and research teams.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions related to customer claims and product performance.
  • Manage new product qualification programs by connecting customers, operations, sales and technical teams.
  • Support business development activities, customer audits and commercial negotiations through technical expertise.
  • Optimize value-in-use assessments and communicate technical value propositions to key accounts.
  • Identify and develop new market opportunities through strategic engagement with rolling mills and end users.

Required for Success

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in aluminum rolling mill and slab casting environments, including product qualification and quality systems.
  • Strong technical expertise across the aluminum rolling value chain, including casting, rolling and customer applications.
  • Experience supporting key customer relationships, technical marketing or account management activities.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and communicate recommendations effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • If you are applying for the role based in the province of Quebec, fluency in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company and the duties of this position may require collaboration with colleagues, teams, or partners based outside Quebec.
