Job Description

The Pipeline Developer – Review & Automation Workflows plays a key role in designing and maintaining tools and APIs that support Rodeo FX’s review, dailies, and automation systems. This role ensures seamless media playback, reliable shot tracking, and streamlined communication between editorial, production, and delivery teams.

Lead the development of cross-platform tools that unify platforms such as RV, ShotGrid, xStudio, and in-house systems, building intuitive interfaces that empower supervisors, artists, and production staff. Also contribute to the evolution of our graph-based automation engine, helping standardize and scale ingest, publish, and review workflows across the studio.

Key Accountabilities:

Review Workflow Development

  • Design and build tools that integrate RV, ShotGrid, Hiero, and internal platforms into scalable, project-aware review pipelines.
  • Extend and maintain APIs for dailies automation, playlist generation, and editorial cut tracking.
  • Work directly with show teams to implement review workflows tailored to project-specific needs.

Pipeline Automation & Integration

  • Develop graph-based logic for ingest, publishing, and review nodes in the studio’s automation engine.
  • Ensure clean communication and metadata flow between production, editorial, and pipeline systems.
  • Contribute to reusable libraries and components for review pipeline extensibility.

User-Centered Tool Design

  • Maintain a high UX standard across all tools; prioritize simplicity, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Build user-facing interfaces using Qt (PySide2/PyQt) and design command-line utilities for automation.
  • Document tools and workflows clearly, and provide technical support to end users across departments.

Collaboration & Engineering Practices

  • Work closely with VFX Supervisors, Production, Editorial, and other Pipeline Developers to refine tool specifications and solve workflow bottlenecks.
  • Follow best practices for version control, testing, and CI/CD in a collaborative Git-based environment.
  • Ensure system stability and maintainability in a fast-paced, multi-project context.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Pipeline Developer or Tools Engineer in a VFX studio.
  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expert-level Python programming skills.
  • Proven experience with RV, ShotGrid, and Hiero integration.
  • Strong UX skills and experience building tools using Qt (PySide2/PyQt).
  • Solid understanding of VFX review workflows, editorial timelines, and shot versioning systems.
  • Comfortable working in Linux and using CLI tools for scripting and debugging.
  • Experience with TDD, CI/CD, and collaborative Git workflows (branches, PRs, code reviews).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with C++ and build systems.
  • Familiarity with full-stack development (Flask, FastAPI, React).
  • Knowledge of color workflows: ACES, OCIO, LUT management.
  • Experience building or maintaining automation systems or workflow engines.
  • Experience with Rez for environment and package management.
  • Familiarity with editorial tools: Avid, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve in VFX contexts.

Additional Information

  • Full-time, Permanent Contract;
  • Flexible and hybrid work structure in all our locations;
  • 5 paid sick/personal days;
