Job Description

The Character Surfacing Artist partakes in the creation of the characters look under the supervision of the Look Dev Supervisor. He relies on both strong technical skills and an aesthetic sense to produce high quality images that are true to the style of the film. He is responsible for the creation of the characters' textures and materials.  

Responsabilities

Please note that this role is not currently active and is being shared as an expression of interest. We anticipate opening new positions in the coming weeks and would like to be prepared ahead of time.

  • Create the final look of characters and props and provide the necessary nuances to achieve the desired look  
  • Create textures and materials based on concepts and references
  • Create UVs and texturing that meet shader and look needs
  • Create shading networks for specific assets

Qualifications

Required skills:

 

  • Demonstrated experience as a Surfacing Artist in a film production environment, animated TV series or visual effects
  • Excellent knowledge of Autodesk Maya and Katana, Substance Painter or Mari
  • Good knowledge of Arnold
  • Strong problem-solving skillsAn aesthetic sense to produce high quality images that are true to the style of the film
  • Curiosity and interest for technical challenges
  • Excellent understanding of lighting, color, contrast, shade, shadow, and shading
  • Blender knowledge would be a plus

 

Optional skills:

  • Knowledge of Substance Designer is a plus
  • Knowledge in procedural texturing and sculpt

* The person in this role will work closely with our Paris studio in a bilingual environment, as well as with international partners, talent, and clients. They will regularly interact with non-French-speaking stakeholders across various productions and strategic communications, in order to present and promote the creative and technical strengths of Mikros Animation on a global scale.
