This Position reports to:

Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments. Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completing the corresponding engineering assignments.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid
Responsibilities :

Technical contribution

  • Engineering development
    • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
    • Executes assignments using established solutions.

  • Authorization
    • Acts as a design authority (if needed) for a particular engineering discipline and completes the corresponding engineering assignments.
    • Acts as a technical lead and approves design deliverables.
    • Reviews complete project documents for conformity, safety, cybersecurity, and quality assurance requirements.

  • Construction support
    • Collaborates on project installation, commissioning, and site activities, to clarify potential issues or provide solutions to rectify the engineering errors.
    • Provides technical support to commissioning and start-up activities.

Customer and Sales

  • Interacts with customers, contractors, and suppliers, attends project meetings, and presents all technical aspects of project assignments.

  • Finalizes the ‘fail-safe philosophy’, “secure-by-design principles”, and other key concepts as part of kick-off and design freeze meetings.

  • Participates in project meetings actively and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations.

  • Assists in creating proposals for projects through coordinating the proposal documents and engineering estimates.

  • Assists in performing engineering risk analysis before submitting for project risk review.

Technical leadership and knowledge sharing

  • Applies design thinking or design for excellence concepts in projects, including modelling, prototyping, simulation, and calculations.

  • Collaborates and networks with engineering colleagues within ABB.

  • Engages in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools, and processes.

  • Builds knowledge repositories and shares best practices and lessons-learned documentation across different projects and disciplines.

  • Coaches the project engineers and designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, including modelling, prototyping, and calculations.

People Leadership and development

  • Leads, supervises, and coordinates teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) on low complexity projects.

  • Leads single or multi-discipline engineering teams of less than 10 members.

Processes and tools

  • Utilizes standard processes, tools, and techniques.

  • Ensures that the engineering activities comply with the safety, cybersecurity regulations and standards, and contractual requirements.

Risk and opportunity management

  • Evaluates risks and opportunities and accordingly strategizes mitigation for their engineering projects/programs.

  • Supports the project manager in overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions.

  • Identifies opportunities for repeating and new businesses.

Contract Management

  • Ensures Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project meets the contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left-Over Material (PLOM).

  • Negotiates claims and engineering changes.

  • Supports project manager / contract manager in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantificationsincluding safety and cybersecurity, etc.).

  • Oversees the creation of subcontracts and manages the subcontractors, jointly with other involved disciplines including supply chain management.

Planning and control

  • Creates work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects in consultation with the respective project managers.

  • Ensures quality and timely implementation of projects within the targeted cost.

Collaboration / Leadership

  • Works closely with project manager right from the receipt of contract/order till closure, to meet the technical requirements of the contract.

  • Leads, supervises, and coordinates teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) for assigned projects.

Qualifications for the role
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is considered a strong asset.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
