The Opportunity 

This role plays a fundamental part within the Personal Insurance Portfolio Management team by co-leading the central analytical engine required to support Definity’s portfolio objectives.

Reporting to the VP, Personal Insurance Operational & Financial Planning, this role is accountable for overseeing the delivery of timely, high-quality portfolio performance monitoring, insight generation, forecasting, and deep dive analysis. In partnership with other leaders, you will ensure the team provides clear, actionable insights that diagnose performance trends, explain the “why” behind results, and support effective decision making by Regional Portfolio Directors.

This role combines people leadership, analytical excellence, and operational rigor. You will build and oversee a center of excellence for analytical talent, manage the team’s end-to-end workflow, and partner closely with PI Directors and senior stakeholders to align analytical effort with the most critical business priorities and long-term portfolio strategy.

This role will have regular exposure to senior leaders and are expected to confidently form and present portfolio recommendations that influence strategic and tactical decisions across Personal Insurance.

What to Expect

Lead Portfolio Performance Monitoring & Insight Generation

  • Oversee the continuous monitoring of Personal Insurance portfolio performance across all PI products and regions
  • Direct the generation of actionable portfolio insights, guiding the team to move beyond reporting results to clearly explain underlying drivers and trends
  • Ensure all analysis tells a cohesive story around profitability, risk quality, and market dynamics, supported by clear recommendations
  • Champion a culture of analytical curiosity and proactive insight generation, encouraging early identification of trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Support the development and refinement of portfolio forecasts by ensuring underlying assumptions are informed by current performance trends, emerging insights, and identified risks and opportunities

 

Oversee Deep‑Dive Analysis & Strategic Projects

  • Prioritize and manage a portfolio of deep‑dive analytical projects designed to diagnose root causes of performance trends  
  • Partner with Regional Portfolio Directors to help frame strategic questions and ensure analysis directly informs portfolio actions and decisions
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and relevance of analytical outputs across all projects
  • Translate analytical findings into clear, data-driven portfolio recommendations, outlining trade-offs, expected impacts, and practical actions 
  • Partner with stakeholders to evaluate potential portfolio actions and scenarios, ensuring recommendations are grounded in robust analysis and aligned to financial and risk objectives

 

Develop & Lead a High‑Performing Analytical Team

  • Build and lead a center of excellence for portfolio analytics, accountable for engagement, development, and performance of all PI Portfolio Analysts
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to support both technical capability and professional development
  • Manage performance expectations and support career progression for analysts, including identifying development opportunities and future leaders
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance team culture

 

Manage Operational Workflow & Stakeholder Relationships

  • Design and manage the operational workflow for the centralized analyst team, including project intake, prioritization, capacity planning, and quality control
  • Facilitate a weekly prioritization forum with Regional Portfolio Directors to ensure analytical resources are aligned to the highest‑value business needs
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Portfolio Directors and the analyst team, ensuring strong communication, clarity of expectations, and effective delivery

 

What You Bring

  • University degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in analytics, portfolio management, FP&A, pricing, actuarial, or insurance performance analysis
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high‑performing analytical teams
  • Strong understanding of Personal Insurance (P&C) financials, portfolio metrics, and performance drivers
  • Proven ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for senior business stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills
  • Highly collaborative, with strong judgment and the ability to balance analytical rigor with business relevance

High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Salary Range: $106,500-$156,500
