Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Software Development Manager who will accomplish department objectives by managing staff, and planning and evaluating department activities. What you'll do:

As a Software Development Manager your key area of responsibility will be providing oversight and direction to your team in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, and managing team expectations regarding task assignments and work arrangements. You will also be responsible for fostering a workplace culture consistent with Geotab’s mission, vision, and values. You will need to work closely with your direct reports, providing coaching, mentorship, and support during performance management and career development planning.

To be successful in this role, you will be a strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong project management skills, able to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through to completion. You will also possess a well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship management skills.

How you'll make an impact:
  • Provide oversight and direction to the employees on the team in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

  • Manage team expectations with regards to task assignments, work arrangements and other department expectations.

  • Create a workplace culture that is consistent with Geotab’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Provide expert project leadership and guidance to the team as SME.

  • Oversee the activities and performance of direct reports, including providing direction, coaching, and mentorship.

  • Engage in the development of the team by coaching, providing feedback, identifying areas of growth and training opportunities.

  • Collaborate and support employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs and career development planning.

  • Prepare detailed technical design of software components and systems architecture based requirements, and prepare all related documentation.

  • Carry out coding and unit testing in a variety of programming languages and environments.

  • Participate in the design and development of new product ideas, concepts, prototypes, and proofs of concept.

What you'll bring to the role:
  • 12 years experience in general software development.

  • 3-5 years experience managing and developing teams.

  • Leadership experience in a team-oriented workplace.

  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma specialization in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • High-level expertise in C#, Python, and advanced JavaScript (React).

  • Experience with embedded device management and in data engineering & analytics
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming.

  • Strong project management skills; able to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through to completion.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.

  • Success with coaching and development of employees.

  • Strategic mindset, has a keen sense of priorities, along with an ability to pivot as the landscape changes.
