About This Role

                                                                                                         

The Director, International Tax reports to the Vice-President, Global Taxation and is responsible for the tax implications of CAE’s international projects including the assessment of the foreign country tax issues, the recommendation to Management of tax effective structure and the implementation of the approved tax structure. She/he assists the Vice-President, Global Taxation in leading special international tax planning projects such as financing, cash repatriation, new joint venture and corporate reorganizations of international business.

  • Work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team that focuses on delivering tax structuring services and on communicating findings and opportunities to Management. Liaise with other team members on topics such as Transfer Pricing and Pillar II.
  • Work closely with CAE’s corporate Structured Finance team to support the planning and financial modeling of cross border investments, new joint ventures, acquisitions and divestitures and optimal supply chain structures with respect to various levels of taxation (corporate income tax, withholding taxes, value-added taxes, stamp duty).
  • Analyze and advise on tax (income, value added, withholding etc) aspects of CAE proposed transactions on the international market and recommend to management a tax effective structure for the transactions, providing estimates of tax costs (corporate, sales and other taxes).
  • Analyze CAE’s international tax structure and make recommendations to Management for international tax planning including corporate reorganization, integration of new acquisitions into the CAE tax structure, financing and dividend repatriation.
  • Advise Management and operating personnel on foreign country tax considerations and implications impacting the feasibility study of international projects.
  • Review contracts and other documents related to international transactions and recommend changes to ensure that the tax considerations are properly covered.
  • Elaborate plans and procedures to ensure implementation of approved tax structure.
  • Establish detailed procedures outlining the various ongoing tax compliance functions that Operating personnel will be required to complete.
  • Ensure with the assistance of local Finance directors that CAE meets all its tax compliance requirements and filings in the various countries.
  • Monitor international tax changes, advise management of their impact on CAE’s operations, and recommend required actions.
  • Provide tax training to employees of CAE and subsidiaries relating to international tax.
  • Modify or propose changes to corporate policies and procedures in relation to international tax.
  • Manage and supervise international tax managers.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Tax Law, CPA designation, CPA Canada’s in-depth tax course, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 12 years’ experience particularly in International Tax and Canadian Tax.
  • Tax reporting experience is an asset.

Success in this position will require:

  • English writing and verbal skills with the ability to disseminate complex tax findings in a manner accessible to all. French writing and verbal skills is a strong asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  •  Excellent research skills.
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement and good business knowledge and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  •  Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
