POSITION OVERVIEW

The DevOps Engineering Specialist is a strategic role within the Application Engineering team, primarily responsible for defining, maintaining, and evangelizing DevOps culture, standards and best practices across BDC IT. This person ensures consistency, security, and efficiency in software delivery by creating governance frameworks, publishing golden-path templates, and driving adoption across all development squads. While the role supports CI/CD and reliability enablement, its core mission is standards ownership and cross-squad enablement.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Define and maintain DevOps standards for CI/CD, SSDLC, security gates, and observability.

  • Document and publish best practices in Confluence and internal repositories.

  • Enable adoption across squads through training, workshops, and coaching.

  • Develop golden-path templates for pipelines and repository structures.

  • Measure adoption and effectiveness using DORA metrics and compliance checks.

  • Collaborate with Tech Leads, InfoSec, and Platform teams to align practices.

  • Support CI/CD pipeline management and process automation as secondary tasks.

Key Deliverables

  • Comprehensive DevOps standards documentation.

  • Pipeline and repository templates aligned with SSDLC principles.

  • Training calendar and enablement sessions for all squads.

  • Adoption scorecards and DORA metrics dashboards.

  • Reliability dashboards and automation scripts.

Organizational Impact

This role is a catalyst for DevOps maturity at BDC. By setting clear standards and enabling squads, the specialist reduces delivery risk, improves security posture, and accelerates time-to-market across the enterprise.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Hard Skills

  • Coding and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, .NET, Git).

  • System administration and infrastructure fundamentals.

  • CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps).

  • Configuration management (Vault, Venafi).

  • Monitoring & observability (Dynatrace, Splunk).

  • Containerization (Tanzu, Docker).

  • Application security and SSDLC practices (Sonatype, Checkmarxx).

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration.

  • Ability to influence and drive adoption across squads.

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years in software engineering with at least 5 years in DevOps-focused roles.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automation, and cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
