Position Description:
The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Platform Engineering team is looking for a DevOps Specialist to enhance the operational tooling used to build, operate and manage our large scale (50,000 node) heterogeneous Linux and Solaris plant. The tools consist of a mixture of open source and in-house written Perl and Python products, each of which are critical to the daily workflows of system administrators and developers across the bank.
The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Platform Engineering team is responsible for designing and implementing Solaris infrastructure for Morgan Stanley's distributed systems. The group is involved in evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of numerous products, including hardware, Operating Systems (Red Hat Linux and Solaris), system configuration, system services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), high availability products, filesystems (AFS, NFS and various cluster filesystems), virtualization technologies and a variety of in-house developed tools.
Role Profile
We are looking for a strong DevOps specialist with Perl or Python experience to enhance and support a variety of tools used by hundreds of system administrators and developers across the globe as an essential daily part of their workflow.
You will have experience of managing, deploying to and debugging large scale production environments.
You will be able to write secure, testable, robust code.
You will be enthusiastic to apply modern software development practices such as test driven development, agile, git, code review and continuous integration.
You will be joining a global team of highly accomplished developers and operations specialists.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills Required:
Systems Administrator experience with Solaris 11
Unix and networking fundamentals.
Good knowledge of at least one configuration management system such as puppet, chef, ansible or similar.
Ability to write robust, maintainable, scripts in Perl, Python or Ruby.
Effective troubleshooting skills across all components of the plant (HW, OS, network, storage).
Skills Desired:
Ability to use DTrace
Hand-on experience with ZFS
Experience in creating Solaris IPS packages
Knowledge of writing object-oriented code in Perl and Python.
Exposure to modern development tools and practices including git, jenkins, agile and continuous integration.
