Job Description:

TD’s Translation Services department is a team of some 30 dedicated bilingual translation professionals whose goal is to ensure efficient and accurate translation support to all business areas across the organization.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Manager, Translation Services, the Associate Manager reviews the work performed by Translators, Translator-Revisers and, if applicable, Senior Translator-Revisers, as well as translation vendors in order to ensure accuracy of the translation. They are responsible for maintaining efficient relationships with key business partners in the business units they support. Occasionally, they translate a variety of documents from English to French (and occasionally from French to English) more complex in nature. As a Team Leader of Translation Services, they act as People Manager for four translators and a project coordinator and oversee the team's activities and the career development of thier colleagues.

Accountabilities

  • Act as a Team Leader/People Manager for 5 employees (including Translators, Translator-Revisers and Senior Translator-Revisers)

  • Provide coaching to team members to help them improve their work, develop their abilities and build their careers

  • Manage work assignments between their team to meet Business Partner communication/distribution requirements

  • Revise documents translated by team members originating from the Business Units of the Bank, specifically TD Wealth, TD Direct Investment, TD Asset Management, TD Securities and TD Economics.

  • Revise and control the quality of French documents translated by translators and external suppliers as it relates to form and content, including grammar, clarity, conciseness, accuracy, and consistency of terminology

  • Revise documents that were initially developed in French for French-speaking Business Partners to make sure messages were conveyed properly

  • Review existing content (such as Web sites, Intranet sites, etc.) and provide guidance around edits as needed

  • Provide support to special and complex translation initiatives that can occur from time to time, i.e. acquisitions or annual/quarterly special projects

  • Conduct research, consult with other translators, authors, specialists in the field and others to resolve questions and ensure the accuracy of translation

  • Perform terminological research associated with translation and contribute to expanding the terminological database by sharing terminological records and findings and manage terminological assets for the Bank

  • Act as a key resource for all translators and business partners and as a mentor to the less experienced members of the team. This includes answering their questions, providing feedback on the quality of their translation and guidance on how to improve their work

  • Act as a corporate resource for questions related to translation

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Business Partners and colleagues

  • Participate in meetings of the TD Translation Leadership Team

  • If needed, assist the Department Manager with Management related tasks

  • Perform other related duties as required

Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations:

University degree in translation

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • 10 years or more experience in a structured translation environment as a Translator and at least 5 years of experience as a Reviser, including supervising and mentoring junior translators

  • Complete fluency in French and English (written and oral)

  • Excellent people management skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in managing diverse teams

  • Experience in terminology and terminological research

  • Experience in financial translation  

  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision

  • Ability to research and resolve translation issues

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Works to create a sense of teamwork, openness and communication

  • Thorough knowledge of computer-aided translation tools (Memoq, FlowFit, AGT, Globalese)

  • Computer skills (MS Office, CoPilot and other basic tools)

  • Intellectual curiosity
