Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides instruction, guidance and positive leadership to Production and Shipping Material Handlers by assisting in solving day to day problems, utilizing the Magna Employee Charter while implementing the policies and procedures of the company.
  • Provide strategic planning for material conveyance improvements including costing, manpower planning, standardized work procedures, job rotation, etc.
  • Responsible for managing and appraising team member job performance and recommending corrective action.
  • Utilize Lean Principles to standardize processes and methods, reduce process variation, identify waste and methodically eliminate waste.
  • Develop standardized work procedures by designing and/or documenting the best work sequence for each process focusing on ergonomic improvements
  • Utilize knowledge and skills to maintain the highest level of quality and efficiency possible.
  • Monitoring flow of parts, materials, productivity and quality including Kanban and inventory levels, take corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure operational goals and standards are met and followed, effectively using feedback loops and
  • systems and escalation process.
  • Troubleshoot daily quality, safety and productivity issues being proactive in predicting abnormalities and finding innovative solutions to correct.
  • Lead ergonomic assessments of team members work and equipment and implement countermeasures and job rotation to improve long-term safe working conditions and team member well-being.
  • Participate in setting KPI targets including safety, delivery, etc., as a method of continuous improvement.
  • Initiate, coordinate and participate in safety, quality, productivity and cost improvement projects.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, PPE requirements and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead, perform and/or participate in ergonomic exercises, 5S housekeeping, accident investigation and safety audits and related activities.
  • Other Tasks:
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee's Charter, the Magna Corporate Constitution, the Magna Operational Principles and MAFACT in all aspects of position and interaction with others.
  • Effective use of MDV's Escalation Process.
  • Compliance to IATF customer requirements
  • Conducts performance evaluations, disciplinary action, temporary employee orientation and daily completion of temporary tracker to established deadlines.
  • Attends and ensures attendance of team members to all scheduled meetings and training.
  • Enforces and complies with all Federal/Provincial Regulations including all internal safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employee Handbook and related internal systems.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

Core Competencies:
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job functions of a leadership role.
  • Thorough understanding of company product, shop floor material conveyance including work flow, scheduling, Kanban.
  • Proficient in knowledge of Material Handling safety and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate problem solving and resolution working with multiple departments and prioritize activities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Ability to maintain on call flexibility to control abnormal conditions.
  • Active listener with effective leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

Education/Qualifications:
  • Minimum two to five years of relevant manufacturing experience in logistics leadership role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in planning, shipping, warehouse management and inventory systems
  • Automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Possess valid forklift and related certification and able to test and train others on forklift and related operations
  • MHMS Certification considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing and MAFACT
  • Understanding of Employee Charter and MDV's Policies and Procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of the English language both written and verbal
  • Strong knowledge of process flow and people development
  • Proficient in computerized systems including ERP System experience
