aQuatonomous is a multidisciplinary student engineering design team at Queen’s University focused on building autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) for international competition. We compete annually at RoboBoat, designing and developing boats capable of fully autonomous operation in real-world environments.

As the team grows, maintaining strong knowledge transfer and technical training is essential. To support this, we are continuing the NAVIS initiative and are hiring leadership roles for the 2026–2027 season.

🎓 NAVIS Team Overview

NAVIS, short for Nautical Autonomy, Vessels and Innovation School, is a hands-on training and knowledge-transfer initiative within aQuatonomous.

Its goal is to introduce junior students to core skills that are not always taught directly in class, including ROS 2, robotics algorithms, sensors, control systems, and naval architecture, through the development of a small-scale autonomous surface vehicle project.

NAVIS focuses on building technical foundations, strengthening confidence in hands-on engineering, and ensuring that knowledge from experienced members is passed on to the next generation of aQua engineers.

🔷 NAVIS Directors (2 Positions)

As a NAVIS Director, you will lead the development and organization of the NAVIS program. This includes guiding junior members through technical workshops, coordinating the small-scale ASV project, and helping structure learning opportunities across different engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and organize the NAVIS training initiative
  • Design and coordinate technical workshops covering topics such as ROS 2, robotics algorithms, sensors, and control systems
  • Guide the development of the NAVIS small-scale ASV project
  • Support mentorship and knowledge transfer between senior and junior team members
  • Work with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to develop learning materials and technical exercises
  • Help create a welcoming environment for new members learning robotics and autonomy

🌊 Why Join NAVIS?

This is your chance to:

  • Help train and mentor the next generation of aQuatonomous members
  • Design hands-on robotics learning experiences
  • Strengthen your own understanding by teaching and guiding others
  • Play a key role in the long-term sustainability and growth of the team
