Join a team shaping Canada’s venture capital ecosystem

At BDC, the Government Funds team manages capital on behalf of the Government of Canada to strengthen and grow Canada’s venture capital market. This includes deploying $350M under the Venture Capital Action Plan (VCAP), $450M under the Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI), and $450M under the Renewed Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (Renewed VCCI). These programs totalling $1.2B AUM are designed to crowd in private capital and support fund managers across the Canadian venture capital asset class.

Building on this foundation, BDC is now deploying the $1B Growth Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (Growth VCCI), a landmark platform focused on scaling Canada’s most promising funds and innovative companies.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of investment, policy, and ecosystem development, with direct exposure to the most prominent Canadian fund managers while contributing to a national priority initiative shaping Canada’s innovation economy.


POSITION OVERVIEW

As Analyst, you will support the team in all aspects of its operations, with a particular focus on providing continuous information resources on the operational performance of the nine ongoing programs and any upcoming additional programs. You are highly organized, with a strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Additionally, you have strong proficiency in Excel. A team player, you will work with the team to collect and prepare standard and customized reports, and help maintain up-to-date reporting and analytics on fund performance.


CHALLENGES TO BE MET

Portfolio Analytics, Performance Monitoring & Insights

  • Act as the program’s central resource on portfolio performance, providing analysis across industry sectors, investment stages, geographies, fund managers, and portfolio companies where available
  • Work closely with analysts to develop and maintain performance metrics, benchmarking portfolio results against program objectives, commitments, industry standards, and relevant market comparators
  • Efficiently retrieve, maintain, and analyze information from internal and external data sources, research platforms, market studies, and reference materials to support decision-making and reporting
  • Participate in strategic discussions related to program design, portfolio oversight, and monitoring progress against program objectives and fund manager commitments

Program Operations and Reporting

  • Provide administrative and research support to internal and external stakeholders, including preparation of operational statistics, quarterly and annual reports, authorizations, amendments, and other program documentation
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial management systems, including iLevel and program reporting dashboards, and coordinate the processing of cash call authorizations and capital distribution notices
  • Coordinate activities related to the receipt, review, and management of applications and stakeholder submissions associated with the launch, implementation, and wind-up of program initiatives
  • Manage filing systems and oversee the timely distribution and coordination of reports, information requests, and key program deliverables

Ecosystem Engagement

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with BDC teams, government partners, fund managers, and external stakeholders to support information sharing and coordinated program delivery
  • Monitor relevant ISED initiatives and industry developments, identifying implications for the program and contributing to ongoing program visibility and stakeholder engagement
  • Facilitate the dissemination of information across internal and external audiences to support program objectives and stakeholder alignment

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or equivalent (concentration in finance, accounting or business administration is preferred) 
  • One to three years in a financial or banking institution, or in an investment fund
  • Accounting and/or bookkeeping experience would be an asset 
  • Venture capital experience would also be an asset
  • Strong Financial modelling capabilities and high attention to detail
  • Able to work in a dynamic, productive team environment
  • Exercise discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive situations and maintaining an appropriate level of confidentiality

Core competencies

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent computer skills for conducting research as well as specific programs such as Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Strong work ethic and ability to perform under limited supervision using initiative and good judgment to assess priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills in English; French fluency would be an asset
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment

The position is primarily based in Montreal or Ottawa.
