Navan Employee Perspectives
What is your role, and what attracted you to Navan? Describe the moment when you knew you’d found the right fit.
I am currently a senior sales development representative manager, overseeing the enterprise west team. Prior to that, I held a plethora of roles at Navan, including marketing development representative, SDR, intern manager and commercial SDR manager. I was attracted to Navan for three major reasons: career mobility, financial autonomy and, most importantly, a high-performance environment. I knew I’d found the right fit when I saw I was surrounded by people who were continuously challenging each other to be the best versions of themselves in order to learn, be successful and drive toward both their own and shared goals.
What’s your favorite part about working at Navan?
My favorite part about working at Navan is and has always been the people. Regardless of tenure, role, segment or function of the business, there is always someone jumping in to help and develop you. I came into contact with it as a new hire, excitedly meeting new people every single day who carved out time in their day just to introduce themselves. I’ve experienced it throughout two cross-country moves, being embraced from Austin to Salt Lake City to San Francisco by the people at every office. I strive to live it out as my truth now, devoting my time to the development of others.
What advice would you give to job seekers looking to join your growing team?
There are three traits that stand out to me from candidates who ultimately turn into some of the most successful reps I’ve worked alongside or managed directly: curiosity, grit and discipline. Individuals who possess these innate traits and can not only embody them in personal representation but provide real-life examples of how they’ve shown up in their life will undoubtedly crush the interview process and have an incredibly bright future ahead of them at Navan.

What drew you to Navan? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?
I came from the expense and payments space before joining Navan. What drew me to the company was that so many of my past clients were already managing their business travel and having an amazing experience using Navan.
At the time it was rare to find a company growing so quickly with such a strong product compared to traditional competitors. It just so happened that Navan opened a sales and success office in New York when I got hired. The founding team members in New York set the pace like I hadn’t seen in my career and I knew it was a team I needed to be a part of. Four and a half years later, I am still building and winning with many of those same teammates. I think it’s safe to say my expectations have been met.
What’s been your biggest success story since joining the team?
My biggest success has been helping launch our expense and corporate card business. I’ve been fortunate enough to work cross-functionally with such a reliant team. However, we have gone through some challenging periods.
Travel virtually stopped in March of 2020 and travel was not a top priority to finance and accounting teams. We pivoted our focus to solving problems for the back office by managing spend as well as giving visibility and control over spend. Especially with lots of companies having a distributed workforce from 2020 to 2022, this was a pain point for many finance and accounting leaders. Getting to play an integral role within the organization from the time our expense offering was a minimum viable product, to now where we’re supporting many global, public organizations’ entire expenses and corporate card programs has been one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences in my career.
Navan is currently hiring for a handful of roles. How can new hires make an immediate impact at the company?
We always look for candidates who are intelligent and can prove they have a figure-it-out mentality when it comes to life and work. We have endless resources surrounding enablement, like product demo environments and live training boot camps. Our best salespeople take extreme ownership in their first 60 days by mastering our product, learning the industry and understanding and delivering the value prop to finance and accounting teams.

“At Navan, I’ve always felt like part of a team, where my contributions truly made a difference and my voice was heard. I was seen. I was valued. People are the reason I came back to Navan.”

“There's a real focus on ownership and accountability — people at every level are encouraged to think like founders and to challenge the status quo.”
