Reporting to the Division President, Defense & Security, the Vice-President Operations will lead the Canadian defence and security operations, for continued market expansion. With P&L accountability for this $350M annual business, the VP Operations will provide the operational and commercial strategy, which includes 13 sites across the country. With an eye on continued growth, the VP Operations will streamline operations and implement scalable structures, processes and frameworks that support the business’ projected expansion targets.  Based in Ottawa, the VP Operations will build strategic networks with Government, industry stakeholders and the general public and position CAE to win large-scale procurement opportunities that align with corporate goals.

An expert in business development, advocacy, and operational effectiveness, you create winning strategies with proven experience significantly expanded business operations. You are an impactful communicator with an ability to engage, influence, and inspire key stakeholders to pursue a course of action. A natural change-agent, you bring a high level of integrity and ability to inspire others through transformation that drives business results. You are experienced in the defence or aerospace industry and bring a clear vision for the future of our business.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Guides and directs management in the development, production, promotion, and financial aspects of the organization's CAE Military Simulation Products, Military Training Services and Professional Services in the Canadian region;

  • Creates the structure and processes necessary to manage CAE Canada’s business unit current activities and its projected growth;

  • Plans, directs and controls activities of the operations with over 800 employees to accomplish budgeted financial objectives;

  • Prepares short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives;

  • Engage, negotiate, manage and contract with several international OEMs;

  • Responsible for customer satisfaction by ensuring adherence to contractual requirements for quality and schedule performance;

  • Maintains a sound plan of corporate organization, establishing policies to ensure adequate management development and to provide for capable management succession;

  • Develops and implements procedures and controls to promote communications and adequate information flow within the organization;

  • Evaluates the results of overall operations regularly and systematically, reporting these results to the Group President;

  • Accountable for CAE Canada Live Flying Operations Center in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan and the in consequence the successful delivery of the FAcT program at this site

  • Acts as a key interface to the Canadian government for the CAE D&S Canada business unit.

 

Key Challenges

  • Protect and maintain our market leading position in Military Training Systems and Solutions in Canada;

  • Grow CAE’s market position in the domain of In-Service Support and Sustainment;

  • Support and implement the strategy to position CAE as a strategic partner (product strategy, market strategy, account strategy) and actively build relationships to enable success;

  • implement a robust delivery organization to implement the strategic growth of the portfolio; 

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or graduate degree in technical/administrative discipline with proven experience and demonstrated leadership ability;

  • Demonstrated experience in marketing, sales, account management and program management;

  • Proven track record of successful business and management results;

  • Significant experience in selling to government and the military marketplace;

  • Significant experience in delivering complex government programs greater than 1 billion dollars;

  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required.
