Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
Block is seeking an experienced QA Manager to lead our Third-Party Integration Quality efforts across Square, Cash App Pay, Afterpay, and Clearpay. In this role, you will oversee the quality, safety, and reliability of how sellers, partners, and other third-party developers integrate with Block's APIs-ensuring that integrations meet our standards for functionality, security, and user experience.
Our developer platform powers a wide spectrum of seller and buyer experiences-from e-commerce checkouts and mobile apps to custom front-of-house systems (e.g. POS, kiosk, etc.) and back-office tools. As our ecosystem grows, maintaining the integrity of these integrations becomes critical to the success of both our sellers and their buyers.
You will lead a globally distributed team-including internal FTEs, contractors, and BPO partners. Your mandate will be to evolve and scale our integration quality programs, ensuring 3p-built experiences uphold the standards that define Block's brand. Success in this role requires QA expertise, strong technical and program management skills, and an ability to thrive in a matrixed environment-collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, Sales & Partner Engineering, GTM teams, and external partners.
You Will
  • Lead a Cross-Functional Team: Manage a hybrid team of FTEs, contractors, and BPO partners; drive accountability, quality, and development across all contributors.
  • Ensure Program Excellence: Maintain and evolve certification and audit pipelines to uphold a high bar for integration quality while enabling speed to market.
  • Drive Technical Strategy: Define and evolve test strategies and QA coverage models in alignment with evolving API and platform requirements.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Partner closely with Sales and Partner Engineering and GTM teams to ensure our integration QA programs align with business goals and the needs of 3P integrators.
  • Prioritize for Impact: Own the roadmap and backlog of QA activities; ensure the team focuses on high-impact areas and reacts appropriately to new opportunities or issues.
  • Champion Developer Empathy: Advocate for a developer-centric approach to quality, understanding the tradeoffs and developer experience challenges across various verticals and integration types.
  • Scale Through Automation: Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual QA burden and improve program velocity and effectiveness.
  • Measure and Improve: Define success metrics for QA initiatives and programs; build systems for continuous measurement and improvement.

You Have
  • 8+ years of industry experience in Quality Assurance or Software Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience managing QA or technical teams, with a demonstrated track record of building inclusive, high-performing, and engaged teams
  • Deep knowledge of QA methodologies, test automation, and integration testing best practices
  • Proven ability to lead multiple concurrent QA programs across diverse surfaces and product teams
  • A bias toward collaboration, clarity, and execution in a matrixed environment
  • Experience interfacing with Product, Engineering, and external partners to define and uphold technical and quality standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort interfacing with executive stakeholders and external partners

Even Better
  • Experience working on developer platforms or public APIs
  • Experience supporting seller, partner, or developer-facing quality programs
  • Familiarity with payments ecosystems or app marketplaces
  • Experience managing BPO teams or hybrid staffing models
