ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Tax Specialist to support our growing tax services practice. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in corporate tax and financial statement preparation for international clients, direct client communication and hands-on experience with relevant tax and financial statement preparation software.

SERVICES OVERVIEW

Cloud Accounting: AMLB takes the stress out of managing clients' day-to-day finances by providing a comprehensive cloud bookkeeping solution. From a digitized receipt capture solution to maintaining up-to-date financial records, we handle the clients' bookkeeping tasks efficiently and accurately. We also simplify accounts receivable and payable workflows by setting up and managing user-friendly AP/AR systems through tools like Plooto and Stripe to deliver a seamless, cloud-based solution for managing all incoming and outgoing payments.

Tax Planning & Preparation: AMLB offers comprehensive tax support, including the preparation and filing of T2 corporate tax returns, GST/HST filings, financial statement management, and strategic tax planning. AMLB also provides T1 tax filing for owner-managers and audit support for CRA reviews, ensuring peace of mind and compliance throughout the year.

Payroll: AMLB’s cloud-based payroll solutions enable clients to securely process payroll anytime, from anywhere. With WagePoint at the core, we manage direct deposits, T4 slips, tax remittances, and real-time updates, while leveraging collaborative tools to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and insight-driven payroll management.

CFO Advisory: Through virtual CFO services, AMLB delivers strategic financial guidance tailored to the needs of growing businesses. Our advisory offering includes financial modeling, deep dives into profit and margin leakage, audit committee and board reporting, cash flow and forecast analysis, and key performance indicator (KPI) development—all at a fraction of the cost of an in-house CFO.

Not-for-Profit Services: AMLB provides end-to-end financial compliance and advisory for not-for-profit organizations, including preparation and electronic filing of T3010 Registered Charity Returns, funder reporting, and support with government rebate programs such as HST, property tax, and public service body rebates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare annual financial statements and supporting working papers in accordance with Canadian standards. The financial statements are utilized by high-performing entrepreneurial clients in discussions with investors, lenders and for internal reporting
  • Prepare T2 Corporate Tax Returns, T1 Tax Returns for Owner/Managers and T5 slips to enable clients to meet tax compliance requirements 
  • Proactively identify tax planning opportunities, prepare written memos and summaries
  • Working directly with clients on tax issues and document requests
  • Collaborating with Directors and Partners on more complex tax engagements
  • Responding to CRA queries and notices
  • Collaborate with Cloud Finance Services Team to enhance key processes by creating training videos and step-by-step procedures. Promote sustainability and effectiveness by identifying pain points, analyzing root causes, and implementing sustainable changes. 
  • Create and improve standardized year-end financial statements and tax preparation processes, develop internal documentation and training.
  • Research new tax topics and share expertise with the team.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a multi-client accounting environment, ideally within a cloud accounting or public accounting firm with clients in US, Canada, UK, Australia or New Zealand. At least 2 years of experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for such international clients.
  • Strong communication skills and client-facing experience
  • Proficient in financial statement preparation software such as Caseware Cloud, tax software such as CCH iFirm and cloud-based accounting software such as QBO and Xero.
  • CPA preferred; extensive financial statement and tax preparation experience also acceptable
  • Committed to a minimum 2-year engagement
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
