SALT Income/Franchise (SALT IF): State and local tax income and franchise tax compliance and consulting for all types of clients and industries, except for investment funds and real estate.

RSM US LLP is looking for a Tax Senior Manager for Income & Franchise Tax Consulting within our expanding State & Local Tax (SALT) practice.  This role provides an opportunity to join a high-performing tax practice.  As a Tax Senior Manager for RSM, you will be responsible for the following job duties, which are focused around three core concepts: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed review and analysis of complex partnership state tax returns  

  • ay serve as a Performance Advisor by providing mentorship or coaching to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback.

  • Train and develop staff members.  

  • Work on multiple complex issues while communicating in a non-technical manner to facilitate communication between the client and the service team while managing the risk for both the client and the firm. 

  • Serve as the state tax client service coordinator for appropriate clients. 

  • Advise clients on a full spectrum of state tax services, including planning, research, compliance, and general mergers and acquisitions activities. 

  • Reviewing research findings and ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards.

  • Assist with new business development, extended service and tax issue recognition for existing clients. 

  • Manage corporate client needs with respect to tax services and state tax compliance.

  • Remain up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law  

  • Other duties as assigned. 

  • Some travel may be required (varies based on location and client need).

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • 8-10 years of experience in business taxation working for a Big 4 or a large national, regional or local accounting firm. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting  

  • Active CPA, Enrolled Agent or Licensed JD. 

  • Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or to collect necessary information for tax service requirements.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of state tax code and technical aspects of tax preparation and compliance 

  • Strong technical skills in accounting and tax preparation, industry specialization a plus 

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $141,900 - $284,900

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
