Duties and Responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results
People:
Create a positive team member experience.
Client:
Assists clients with sales tax issues as required.
Identifies and advises clients of areas of sales tax exposure.
Value:
Reviews client’s sales tax payments, input tax credits and sales tax accounts to identify sales tax recovery opportunities.
Reviews client’s accounting records to identify areas of federal and provincial fuels tax recoveries.
Prepares refund claims, including supporting schedules providing full details of refunds.
Prepares comprehensive client reports summarizing the engagement results, including the preparation of process improvement reports.
Attends technical training sessions and continually updates knowledge in all areas of GST/HST/PST/QST and Ryan proprietary application software: Ryan eReview®.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Accounting and/or Finance.
Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) and four to six years accounting or tax-related experience in industry and/or public accounting environment.
Senior financial experience with emphasis on operational accounting experience and good exposure to current ERP software applications in accounting and financial management.
Basic working knowledge of GST and PST administration is required.  However, a strong knowledge of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) legislation and policies, working as a professional in the commodity tax field is a definite asset.
Superior organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
High level of self-motivation and ethical conduct.
Good client relations and communication skills: pleasant, positive personality.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses: Valid driver’s license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job requires no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
Standard indoor working environment.
Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm; interface with clients and external vendors as necessary.
Independent travel requirement: 20 to 25 %
40+ hour standard workweek requirement.

The Senior Manager, Sales Tax Recovery (“Senior Manager”) works either independently or with other Managers/ Directors to identify sales and fuels tax savings opportunities for clients. The Senior Manager conducts recovery engagements onsite at client’s facilities to gain an understanding of how the client computes each component of sales tax. This includes researching issues, working with client downloads in our proprietary software, and identifying potential exposure areas. Once the field work is completed, the Senior Manager prepares and presents to Clients a comprehensive report of the recovery opportunities.
