What you'll do as a Network Services Solutions Engineer
As a critical member of our Specialist Team, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor; helping clients find the best solution for their business with a particular focus on Cloudflare's networking capabilities.
- Guide qualified prospects through the Solution Design; showing them the key capabilities of Cloudflare's Network capabilities.
- Drive Proof of Concept stages of the sales cycle with hands-on engagement, debugging capabilities and consistent internal and external communication
- Work with your Sales Partners to consistently achieve Pipeline and Revenue goals
- Take clients' requirements, design the optimized Cloudflare network connectivity solution for those requirements, and clearly communicate the benefits vs competing solutions, potential challenges and possible migration paths.
- Support technical discussions with regards to the Cloudflare network, to ensure sound design and overcome objections. Understand, with a rigorous Systems- and Network Engineering perspective, the design of our system and communicate this to clients with varying levels of knowledge.
- Support go-to-market efforts through writing blogs and other reference materials, public speaking, user groups and conference attendances.
Skill Requirements:
- Curiosity and Learning Agility
- 3-5 years of prior Technical Sales, Computer Engineering, or related experience
- Solid technical understanding of Systems- and Network Architecture and Engineering build on foundational knowledge.
- Fundamental understanding of customer network and application architectures.
- Including a strong contextual understanding of the Internet and its inner workings.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP and common routing protocols (BGP, OSPF). Routing and switching fundamentals (GRE, IPSec, Subnetting, Prefix terminology, MSS & MTU, VLANs, VRRP, Spanning Tree, Anycast)
- Detailed understanding of workflow from user to application including hybrid architectures with Azure, AWS, GCP.
- Awareness of the evolution of private networks throughout the last 2 decenia from private lines to MPLS to SDWAN and now the rise of Internet-Only solutions. Have a good understanding of how private networking works (MPLS, SDWAN, underlay/overlay, reachability, visibility, on ramping / off ramping, split tunneling).
- Strong conceptual understanding of SDWAN solutions offered by the main vendors in this space.
- Have a good understanding of how the Internet works (BGP, ASNs, DNS, Communities, prepending, BGP Features like Allowas-in and AS Override, uRPF, GRE, Peering and Transit, IRRs, RPKI, IXPs, PNIs)
- Understanding of DDoS (L3/L4, volumetric, etc) and an understanding of the thread landscape.
- Understanding of how IP transit works, how public and private peering works, how ASNs exchange routing information and forward traffic to each other and what role Internet Exchanges can play in it.
- Hands-on mentality, capable of building labs and PoCs to test topologies, configurations and capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with HTTP Based APIs, including understanding of API based provisioning, awareness of REST, JSON, Terraform, awareness of headers and API tokens and how to leverage these capabilities in a scripting language (e.g. Python).
- SIEM and log analytics platforms
- Technical curiosity and passion: Cloudflare is at the cutting edge of internet technology, and our SSEs are viewed as subject-matter experts. It's incumbent on us to stay up to date not only with Cloudflare's specific products, but with industry trends.
- Ability to manage a project, work to deadlines, and prioritize between competing goals
- have the ability to explain complex technical concepts in easy-to-understand terms.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
