Why this role?

The Special Projects and Development Lead role is a unique opportunity to work directly with the CEO and Chief of Staff/Head of Development at Cohere and to drive high-impact initiatives that shape the company’s future.

It is the rare role that truly sits at the intersection of strategy and execution and will provide for a high degree of independence and autonomy. You’ll work on complex and ambiguous problems critical to the company and no two months will look the same. If you thrive in fast-paced environments, are passionate about making an impact in your work, are deeply curious and eager to learn, and are a high performer this role is for you.

As Special Projects and Development Lead, you will:

  • Lead and execute special projects prioritized by the CEO and Chief of Staff/Head of Development.

    • This will include setting the scope, conducting research, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and problem solving directly with the CEO.

    • When the CEO has a question of “should we consider X?”, you will be the go to person to answer that question.

  • Work on hard problems – and find creative ways to solve them.

  • Collaborate closely with the Chief of Staff/Head of Development on strategic partnerships, investor relations, and financing.

  • Get smart on new topics quickly – this role will touch a wide range of domains. You won’t be an expert on all of them at the outset, but you will quickly get deep as projects pop up.

  • Work across functions and domains and with a cross-functional set of colleagues, informed by the highest-impact projects at any given point in time.

  • Roll up your sleeves. This role will be a platform for answering some of the most interesting/important questions for Cohere. At the same time, you will be a do-er, responsible for finding a way to get the job done.

  • Be part of a team – providing and receiving help/support to and from others. The Office of the CEO is a small and tight knit team.

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • 5-8 years of work experience.

    • Experience in management consulting and at a fast growing startup is preferred.

  • A proven capacity to thrive in ambiguous environments, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as you will be engaging directly with executive leadership and external stakeholders while working closely with the CEO and Chief of Staff.

  • The skillset and desire to operate at a Level 4 and 5, as described in this post.

  • A natural excitement for problems without an obvious or immediate solution.

  • Ability to produce extremely high quality and accurate work outputs.

If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply! If you want to work really hard on a glorious mission with teammates that want the same thing, Cohere is the place for you.

We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities.
