Job Description

Astucemedia is creating a new Senior Unreal Dev Lead position, based in Montreal. The Unreal Development Lead is responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of developers, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality projects using the engines. This role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to drive innovation, solve challenges, and achieve project goals efficiently. The lead works closely with stakeholders, including project managers, designers, and other developers, to align the technical direction with the project’s creative vision.

Qualifications

1. Technical Leadership

  • Lead the architecture, development, and optimization of Unreal-based applications.
  • Define and implement best practices for development, including code quality, performance optimization, and scalability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to developers on the team.
  • Evaluate and integrate new tools, plugins, or workflows to improve development processes.

2. Development and Problem-Solving

  • Collaborate with designers, artists, and other team members to translate creative concepts into functional solutions.
  • Develop key systems, features, and tools within Unreal (e.g., rendering systems, or interactive UI).
  • Optimize applications for performance across various platforms, including AR and Touch Screen (App).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges during the development cycle.

3. Team Lead

  • Conduct code reviews to ensure high-quality and maintainable code.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment that encourages innovation and growth.

4. Communication and Coordination

  • Act as the main point of contact between the development team and project stakeholders.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work with production teams to define project timelines and resource allocation.

5. Innovation and Research

  • Stay up to date with Unreal’s latest features, updates, and industry trends.
  • Research and prototype new ideas to enhance interactive experiences.
  • Explore emerging technologies (e.g., AR, VS, AI) and assess their potential for the project.

Additional Information

Skills and Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Unreal3D and related tools, such as Shader Graph, URP/HDRP, and Timeline.
  • Strong programming skills in C# with experience in object-oriented programming and design patterns.
  • Proficiency in physics-based systems, animation systems, and rendering pipelines.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git & Perforce and project/task management tools.
  • Understanding of cross-platform development and platform-specific optimizations.
  • Experience in integrating third-party libraries, plugins, and APIs.
  • Leadership qualities, including team-building, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead a team and interact with stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
