Responsibilities
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with provincial, federal and international tax laws in Canada, including the United States, Australia and the Netherlands.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns, including corporate and sales taxes, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
Tax Planning:
- Collaborate with external consultants to develop tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and risk reduction.
- Oversee and advise on cross-border and business-to-business transactions.
- Maintain and manage the use of all tax attributes for each entity.
- Take care of all tax matters related to dividends, capital contributions and corporate reorganizations (including mergers, mergers, internal restructurings, etc.).
- Design and implement efficient and compliant tax structures, aimed at optimizing operations while minimizing tax impacts.
- Work closely with legal, accounting, and operations teams to ensure smooth and strategic transaction execution.
Tax provisions:
- Take full responsibility for the tax disposition in accordance with IFRS, including the determination of current and deferred taxes.
- Draft and update the tax note in the financial statements to ensure the clarity, rigour and compliance of the information disclosed.
- Collaborate with accounting and finance teams to ensure the accuracy of tax data in financial statements.
Transfer pricing:
- Manage transfer pricing policies to ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
- Evaluate intercompany transactions and set appropriate transfer prices.
- Collaborate with finance and legal teams to document transfer pricing policies.
- Debt and inter-company loan management.
Coordination of tax audits:
- Manage tax audits initiated by tax authorities.
- Collaborate with auditors, provide necessary documentation, and ensure compliance during the audit process.
SRED Credits and Government Funding Initiatives:
- Coordinate annual SRED tax credit applications in collaboration with the IT team and external consultants.
- Explore other government programs and incentives (e.g., grants, aids) to support the company's initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
- Be the go-to person for the tax department while collaborating with external consultants.
- Draft operational procedures and procedures for tax returns and the calculation of deferred taxes.
- Maintain an internal control framework.
- I supported the various teams in the company, including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field (CPA designation preferred).
- Taking an in-depth course in taxation (such as the in-depth course offered by CPA Canada) would be an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax laws, regulations and tax planning strategies (knowledge of U.S. and Australian laws considered an asset).
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar position.
- Industry experience of at least 2 years
- Knowledge of ERP systems (Business Central is an asset).
- Proficiency in tax software and tools, as well as Microsoft Excel and other relevant applications.
- Perfect command of French and English (written and oral).
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to communicate confidently with management.
- Persevering and diligent in following up on issues until they are resolved.
- Strong people management skills and comfort with ambiguity.
- Practical, strong operational skills, proactive and non-reactive.
