Senior Product Manager

Job Description

SUSE is an Open Source software pioneer and market leader with a fast-paced, exciting environment at the leading edge of Enterprise Linux, Enterprise Container Management (ECM) Solutions, and Edge Computing.

About Rancher Prime  (Enterprise Container Management)

SUSE’s Rancher Prime stacks offer a full spectrum container management solution covering Rancher, Harvester, Longhorn & container security with Neuvector.

Rancher is the industry’s most widely adopted full stack Kubernetes management platform. At SUSE, we pride ourselves in being able to revolutionize the Kubernetes Management space and radically simplify the adoption and operation of cloud native technologies; enabling organizations to build and run secure, scalable and reliable applications across public clouds, hybrid clouds and the edge.

About the Role

SUSE is an open-source pioneer, and we are currently redefining the edge and enterprise data center. We don’t just ‘use’ Kubernetes; we shape it. We are looking for a Product Manager to take the helm of our core engines - K3s and RKE2 - alongside the API Frameworks, networking and scalability that power the Rancher Prime Ecosystem.

This isn’t just about managing a backlog; it’s about orchestrating the ‘connective tissue’ of Rancher. You will lead the charge on cross-team performance and scalability initiatives, ensuring that as our customers scale to thousands of clusters, our software doesn’t just keep up - it leads the way.

The impact you’ll Make:

  • Define the ‘what’ and ‘why’: You’ll own the path for K3s, RKE2 and our core API frameworks. Your job is to describe the destination and the value articulating customer problems and market opportunities; you’ll trust our world-class engineering teams to determine the ‘how’

  • Master the Ecosystem: You will navigate the unique intersection of open source community vs enterprise needs - balancing the needs of a thriving community with the requirements of an enterprise-grade ‘Prime’ offering

  • Architect Scalability: You will act as the central nervous system for performance, gathering feedback across the entire portfolio to prioritize initiatives that keep Rancher fast, responsive and robust

  • Craft the Narrative: You’ll translate deep technical concepts - like k3s lightweight footprint or our Public API work - into compelling stories that resonate with both C-suite execs and platform engineers.

  • Lead through uncertainty: You aren’t afraid of the ‘unknown’. When a feature’s direction is unclear, you use data, customer empathy, and systems thinking to experiment, iterate and find the path forward.

Who you are

  • A systems Thinker: You look at the big picture. You understand how a change in a webhook framework ripples out to affect networking performance and end-user experience.

  • Technical but empathetic: You have the technical acumen to hold your own in a deep-dive architecture session and the customer-centricity to explain that architecture’s value to a Fortune 500 stakeholder

  • Consensus Builder: You don’t dictate; you collaborate. You are an expert at managing stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams toward a unified goal.

  • Async native: you thrive in a global environment. You know how to drive progress across timezones and cultures without needing a meeting for every decision.

  • Open source soul: You understand the culture of upstream projects and how to contribute meaningfully while maintaining a product’s commercial viability.
