Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a bright and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer for employment in our Water Business Line based out of our Burnaby, BC office. This is a project based engineering position to assist and support Wastewater/Water Design, Design-Build and Program Management Projects. The Position will work with Project Managers and other technical disciplines on all project phases including Facility Planning, Design, Procurement, Construction and Close Out. Work will include assisting with the management and coordination of design projects on municipal Wastewater/Water facilities. Field work will be required and field visits to project sites within the NYC Metro area will be required to provide support as design liaison on ongoing construction projects.

Responsible for engineering, design, and rehabilitation activities related to process mechanical equipment, vessels and tanks and piping systems including equipment and piping specifications and procurement. May be involved with the support of installation and operation & maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong analytic and design skills, approves and signs off work.
  • Evaluation and selection of process equipment, pumping systems, pipe materials, and valves under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Technical report writing, participates in development of technical proposals.
  • Construction services support (e.g., shop drawings review).
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) within a year
  • 8+ years of experience within water and/or wastewater engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Hydraulics Institute Standards
  • Understanding of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, BIM360, REVIT, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)
  • Production of design drawings from conceptual design through bid document phase.
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project
  • Strong logic skills and writing skills
