Job Description SummaryAt GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH), we are united by a single, urgent, and optimistic mission: electrify to thrive and decarbonize. The world needs us to accelerate the transition to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy. Together, we have the energy to change the world.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to make immediate contributions to the Mechanical Analysis team, supporting the structural and dynamic analysis of BWRX-300 reactor and internal components. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse technical team to perform engineering analyses demonstrating compliance with ASME BPVC Section III and to develop dynamic loads associated with seismic events and large pipe break scenarios.
This position offers the opportunity to work on safety-critical components and play a meaningful role in the development and deployment of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure the successful execution of assigned tasks in support of SMR projects.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead structural and dynamic analysis projects for the reactor, internal components, and support structures to demonstrate compliance with ASME BPVC Section III, Subsections NB, NG, NCD, and NF.
  • Develop comprehensive finite element analysis (FEA) models of the reactor and internal components to accurately predict dynamic response under seismic and large pipe break conditions.
  • Evaluate primary & secondary stresses and fatigue in reactor internals resulting from mechanical and thermal loadings.
  • Perform work to a high standard of quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.
  • Identify opportunities to create, improve, and implement advanced automation and analysis methodologies.
  • Apply P. Eng seal to engineering deliverables in accordance with PEO requirements
  • Perform technical verification of engineering technical deliverables.
  • Provide engineering expertise, guidance, and technical mentoring to junior engineers within the team.
  • Prepare, communicate, and present complex technical issues to internal and external customers and recommend solutions.
  • Organize Special Purpose Review meetings with cross-functional stakeholders including design engineers, civil structural engineers, systems engineers, chief engineers, project managers, and external partners to align on key decisions and drive consensus in support of the fabrication schedule.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline analysis processes, including automation and simplification.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural and/or dynamic analysis, with strong preference for experience in transient dynamic analysis and response spectrum analysis.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience conducting finite element analysis (FEA), including evaluation of mechanical and thermal loadings under both static and transient conditions, preferably using ANSYS Workbench or APDL.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with reactor pressure vessels and internals is required. Experience in generating seismic loads and Load Specification for reactors is strongly preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario P. Eng Seal and be authorized to seal engineering deliverables.

Eligibility Requirements
