The Sr Manager, Extended Producer Responsibility builds and implements MDLZ's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for North America. The role develops and drives the execution of the EPR strategy to impact public policy on packaging sustainability and ensure compliance with existing and emerging North America packaging sustainability mandates, particularly Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop MDLZ's Extended Producer Responsibilities EPR reporting process and help to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and to mitigate penalties.
- Lead packaging legislative assessment and obligation mapping.
- Coordinate MDLZ's data collection report development, and timely submission of highly complex, multi-faceted regulated reports on packaging usage to government agencies
- Manage annual EPR audit with third-party auditor to ensure accurate reporting, reduce over-reporting and fees, and limit exposure to audits and external risk.
- Engage and advocate MDLZ positions with key external stakeholders, including policymakers and regulators, industry trade associations, packaging sustainability and recycling advocates,
- Represent MDLZ and collaborate with third-party Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), which serve as the intermediary between Producers and States in EPR-regulated frameworks.
- Collaborate with finance partners to facilitate fee forecasting, fee payment, and budget management.
- Coordinate relationships with external consultants to provide legislative and regulatory monitoring and assistance with legislation deep dives.
- Engage with key internal stakeholders, including brand marketing, sustainability, R&D packaging, Legal, finance, and others, to align EPR requirements with packaging roadmaps to achieve compliance and ensure priorities are actioned against. Provide feedback on most effective EPR implementation approaches.
- Create and manage the EPR investment strategy.

- Communicate internally and externally on the programs and projects we execute, including with media, at industry conferences, to senior leaders, and amongst our business partners and employees.
- Contribute to the creation of employee trainings and engagement activities to educate employees about the packaging pillar.
- Support Communications Teams in the development of statements and FAQs related to packaging.
- Nurture relationships with partner organizations, including likeminded companies, NGOs, and industry associations.
Position Requirements
- 7-10 years demonstrated experience as an environmental or packaging lead supporting branded organizations.
- A demonstrated passion for and long-term commitment to the environment with a proven understanding of sustainability concepts and trends.
- Ability to communicate a holistic approach to business and food system sustainability; familiar with key environmental and sustainability issues, positions, and trends related to packaging and circular economy.
- Program and project management expertise; ability to manage multiple on-going initiatives.
- Ability to build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving abilities; deep knowledge of carbon accounting and supply chain risk assessment and mapping.
- Strong analytical and data management experience.

- Oversee cross-functional project teams, agencies and NGO partners.
- Manage program budgets, create and maintain reports on program results.
- Work with business colleagues and external partners to implement plans under your pillar.
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and ability to work in fast paced, dynamic environment and prioritize across competing initiatives.
The base salary range for this position is $137,300 to $188,825; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
