The Senior Java Developer is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.
Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
  • Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
  • Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
  • Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
  • Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
  • Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
  • Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts
  • Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
  • Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
  • Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Technology Skills:

  • Must have expert level (hands-on) knowledge and understanding in JAVA/J2EE spring boot, spring framework stack
  • Must have Deep understanding of Microservice and Microservices best practices, patterns- Spring boot microservices is highly preferred
  • Ideal candidate will have a strong development experience in one or, more of following technologies, with familiarity with JIRA, Confluent, Agile and Continuous Delivery is essential.

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications
  • Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
  • Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques/methods
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

Primary Skills with strong working experience:

Java Proficiency

  • Core Java: Strong understanding of Java fundamentals, OOPs concepts, data structures, algorithms, collections, multithreading, and error handling.
  • Spring Framework (and Spring Boot): This is almost non-negotiable for enterprise Java development. Expertise in Spring Boot for rapid application development, Spring MVC for web applications, Spring Data JPA for persistence, and Spring Security for authentication/authorization.
  • Microservices Architecture: Understanding how to design, develop, and deploy independent, loosely coupled services, which is a common pattern for applications running on ECS.
  • RESTful APIs: Designing, developing, and consuming RESTful web services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build Tools: Maven or Gradle for project management and build automation.

Database Management

  • NoSQL Databases: Strong understanding with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis) if the application leverages them.
  • SQL Databases (Bonus): Familiarity of relational databases (e.g., MSSQL, Oracle) and SQL query language.

Version Control:

  • Git: Essential for collaborative development, branching, merging, and pull requests.
  • GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket: Experience with hosting platforms.

AWS ECS & Related Services:

  • ECS Concepts: Understanding ECS clusters, task definitions, services, and tasks.
  • Load Balancing (ELB/ALB): Configuring Application Load Balancers (ALB) to distribute traffic to ECS services.
  • IAM (Identity and Access Management): Managing permissions for ECS tasks and services.
  • CloudWatch: Monitoring logs and metrics for ECS containers and services.

CI/CD & DevOps Practices:

  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience setting up and managing automated build, test, and deployment pipelines for Java applications on ECS (e.g., using AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Familiarity with tools like AWS CloudFormation or Terraform for defining and provisioning AWS resources (VPCs, ECS clusters, task definitions, etc.).
  • Observability: Implementing logging, monitoring, and tracing for applications running on ECS.
  • Automated Testing: Unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies for applications.
