The Role:
Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer (5 month contract) to join our data science and engineering team and help establish a robust and automated infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The goal is to modernize legacy systems, migrate on premises infrastructure to cloud-native solutions and implement comprehensive monitoring and observability practices. The focus for this DevOps engineer is to help accelerate the adoption of DevOps best practices and establish automated infrastructure pipelines on GCP, enabling efficient and reliable system operations, deployment and monitoring.
The Skillset:
Must Haves:
- Kubernetes Expertise: Deep knowledge of Kubernetes architecture, deployment, and cluster management
- On-Premises Infrastructure: Experience with on-premises asset management and cloud migration
- Apache Airflow: Proficiency in workflow orchestration and data pipeline management
- Helm Charts: Experience with Kubernetes package management and application deployment
- ArgoCD: Knowledge of GitOps practices and continuous deployment automation
- Infrastructure Migration: Proven experience migrating legacy systems to modern cloud platforms
- Code Optimization: Ability to analyze, modernize, and optimize legacy codebases for Performance
- Google Cloud Pub/Sub: Experience with cloud-native messaging and streaming solutions
- Datadog Monitoring: Proficiency in implementing comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems
- GCP Observability: Knowledge of Google Cloud monitoring, logging, and tracing services
- Strong programming skills in Python and other relevant languages
- Proficiency in GCP services, including Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and other relevant services
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and best practices
- Experience with CI/CD tools and techniques
- Experience with performance monitoring and alerting systems
Nice To Haves:
- Experience with infrastructure automation (e.g. Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with distributed processing (e.g. Ray, Dask, asyncio)
- Experience with streaming systems (e.g. RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub, Kafka, etc.)
- Knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure
- Experience with cost optimization strategies for cloud resources
- Experience with VertexAI in GCP
