Technology & Infrastructure (T&I) is the backbone and the future-forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. Our purpose is to constantly innovate to evolve and maintain the Corporation’s technology and infrastructure. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.
A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly regarded pioneer of media technology — not just in Canada but around the world. Today, we are transforming ourselves into a modern and agile public service media organization. Technology is the driving force, and we are the team making it happen.
This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
Location: Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal.
The Strategic Objective
We are orchestrating a large-scale migration of our enterprise data infrastructure. Our goal is to decommission our On-Premise IBM Cognos and Informatica ETL stack, transitioning all data assets into Microsoft Fabric / Power BI.
This role is the functional heartbeat of that migration. You will ensure that as we move from Informatica pipelines to Fabric, no business logic is lost, and our users are empowered to transition seamlessly into a Power BI self-service ecosystem.
The Role: Business-First, Tech-Fluent
This is a Data & Analytics Business Analyst role with a technical edge. You are not the one building the pipelines or the reports, but you must "speak the language" of the developers. You will spend your time deconstructing legacy ETL logic and documenting the functional requirements that will define our future-state data lakehouse.
Key Responsibilities
- ETL Functional Mapping: Analyze existing workflows to extract complex business transformation rules. You will be responsible for creating the Source-to-Target Mappings (STM) that developers will use to build in Microsoft Fabric.
- Legacy Deconstruction: Understand how the Cognos package is constructed to identify how we migrate to Power BI, including legacy Cognos reports.
- API Validation: Use Postman and your understanding of REST APIs to facilitate discussions between the business and developers regarding modern data integrations.
- Requirements Analysis: Translate high-level business needs into technical User Stories and Acceptance Criteria in Jira, ensuring developers have a "zero-ambiguity" roadmap.
- UAT & Data Integrity: Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure that the data landing in Fabric matches the legacy Informatica/Cognos outputs perfectly.
The Technical Toolkit (The "Translator" Profile)
- Data Migration & Integration: 3+ years of proven experience mapping data logic from legacy ETL (Informatica) to modern cloud data platforms (Fabric).
- Enterprise Data Ecosystems: Functional experience navigating Microsoft Fabric is a strong asset.
- Legacy BI: Deep functional understanding of IBM Cognos (Framework Manager) to extract legacy reporting logic.
- Low-Code & Future State BI: Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Power Platform stack (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate) to champion our transition toward user self-service.
- Technical Validation: SQL Mastery (Joins, Window Functions, querying complex views). Familiarity with Postman/APIs for modern data ingestion sources.
- Documentation: Expert-level Source-to-Target Mappings (STM), Data Dictionaries, and translating legacy logic into clear Jira User Stories.
Education & Certifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related College Diploma with equivalent professional experience.
- Certifications (Highly Valued Assets): CBIP, IIBA (CCBA/CBAP), or PMI-PBA certifications.
Who You Are
- The "Bridge": You possess an exceptional ability to use technical terminology with IT teams while using "everyday language" to gain buy-in and alignment from business partners.
- The Logic Detective: You have a strong attention to detail and enjoy digging into a legacy mapping to find that one hidden transformation rule that makes the business run.
- The Change Advocate: You thrive in a dynamic environment where processes are evolving. You value change as an opportunity for efficiency and are passionate about helping users embrace self-service analytics.
- The Performer: You are highly organized with the proven ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Why This Role?
- Cutting Edge: Be at the forefront of a Microsoft Fabric implementation—one of the most sought-after skills in the current market.
- High Visibility: This migration is a top-tier organizational priority with direct impact on our decision-making capabilities.
