Job Description

The Senior Associate, Growth Equity (“GE”) plays a key role in evaluating, executing, and managing investments across the venture capital and growth equity landscape. As a core member of the GE team within CPP Investments’ Private Equity platform, the Senior Associate contributes to both fund and direct investment activities, helping to build a global portfolio that delivers strong risk-adjusted returns through long-term partnerships with top-tier managers and companies.

The Senior Associate independently leads analytical and due diligence workstreams, develops investment recommendations, and contributes to portfolio construction and management. The role requires deep analytical capability, strong investment judgment, and an ability to synthesize insights across complex data and market trends. The Senior Associate also supports the development and management of relationships with leading GPs, co-investors, and portfolio companies, helping to identify opportunities and drive value creation.

Team Summary

The GE mission is to provide CPPIB with strong returns by making fund commitments and GP-aligned direct investments alongside venture capital and growth equity managers across North America and Europe. GE is part of the Funds group within CPPIB’s C$156B Private Equity platform and works closely with several teams across the broader organization.

Accountabilities

  • Research, analyze and execute fund commitments and co-investments
  • Help in the execution of a full investment process, including the review and negotiation of key deal terms
  • Prepare and present investment recommendations to various internal Investment Committees
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of fund portfolios and specific companies to surface direct investment opportunities
  • Develop and evolve the GE Funds strategy via market research, deal origination, modeling, and benchmarking
  • Build relationships with venture capital and growth firms, limited partners, operating companies, and other market participants in connection with origination, due diligence, and post-investment monitoring
  • Participate in the ongoing mentorship and development of investment professionals
  • Collaborate with other teams/departments to execute on investment research and contribute to strategic projects which advance CPP Investments’ long-term priorities

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years related work experience (e.g., investment banking, consulting, private equity, venture capital, fund investing, business development, entrepreneurship, technology, etc.) 
  • Minimum of 3 years of private equity work experience
  • Passion for the venture and growth ecosystem and interest in both funds and co-investments
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Clear and proven communication and presentation skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent research, modeling, and analytical skills 
  • Experience conducting due diligence under a compressed timeline, juggling multiple workstreams, and working with external stakeholders (e.g., GPs, LPs, operating companies, investment banks, lawyers etc.)
  • Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment with a commitment to fostering an inclusive culture
