About the role

As Flare's Senior Accountant, you will be the operational backbone of our finance function and a true partner to the Controller. We've built a strong foundation, and are expanding the team to support our rapid growth and increasing complexity. We need an experienced, results-oriented accounting professional who can drive the day-to-day operations and collaborate closely with the team to ensure issues are raised and addressed effectively. You will own meaningful work from day one and be deeply involved in our transactions, systems, and processes, while also helping shape how the function evolves as we scale.

Most accounting roles are about maintaining a status quo. This is not one of those roles. Flare is in a period of hyper-growth. Our systems and processes are evolving in real time, and what works today may need to be redesigned tomorrow. You must be excited to find innovative ways of solving challenging problems. This is a unique opportunity to help build best-in-class accounting operations at a hypergrowth startup and scale them alongside the business.

What makes this role unique:

• Systems curiosity: You will work within our AI-native ERP from the outset, and help drive the evolution of accounting operations. Manual tasks are part of the role today, but we're looking for someone who will find better ways of doing them. You won't be doing it alone, as Flare has dedicated resources to help integrate AI and explore what's possible.
• Building while flying: You will figure things out, document what you learn, and flag what isn't working - driving continuous improvement, not just maintaining it.

What you'll do

• Own day-to-day transactional accounting and a significant part of the monthly financial close.
• Maintain compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), and sales tax filings.
• Identify and leverage technology and automation opportunities, including agent-based workflows, to streamline financial processes, reduce manual work, and build a well-documented, scalable finance function.
• Assist with the external audit process and participate in ad hoc projects with cross-functional impacts.

You'll be a perfect fit if you have/are

• 4-6 years of progressive accounting/finance operations experience
• Strong working knowledge of revenue recognition, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end closure.
• Excellent knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE) and sales tax compliance.
• Experience with accounting software, spreadsheets, and modern SaaS tools.
• Montreal-based and proficient in both French and English to collaborate with internal and external partners.
• Other qualities:
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Sound judgment on when to solve issues directly and when to escalate them.
  • Able to manage recurring deadlines and flag issues proactively.
  • Curious about technology, and excited about driving process and automation improvements in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment.

  • Fanatically ethical, trustworthy with confidential information, and possess a high standard of accuracy and integrity.

Ideally you have/are

• Experience at a hypergrowth SaaS or tech company
• Exposure to AI tools, automation, or system integrations in an accounting context
• Experience documenting processes and supporting audits
• Experience supporting the implementation of a financial system or tool
• Familiarity with multi-entity, multi-currency environments
• CPA designation
