Description
Leads the development & execution of region strategic imperatives to achieve profit and growth targets for Personal Lines and Small Commercial. Provides leadership, development and coaching to the region leadership responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of insurance products, services & agency programs. Owns agency management, marketing and distribution strategies, operational results, profitability and growth, and overall execution of business strategies adjusting where appropriate to ensure long-term success. Effectively collaborates with and influences internal business partners to manage state regulatory, judicial and CAT complexities in order to achieve profit and growth goals. Ensures regional execution and agency management alignment with overarching Liberty Mutual strategy resulting in a cohesive multi-disciplined strategy to achieve region objectives.
Remote candidates are preferred from the following states: Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Responsibilities
  • Provides input into overall Independent Agent Distribution growth strategy and leads the development and execution of the regional growth and profitability strategies; leading alignment within and across functions and communicates throughout the entire operation. Develops business plans for each state and establishes aggressive goals, clearly identifying key challenges and initiatives for growth in profits.
  • Achieves all financial metrics of annual plan, including budget and management of expenses, FTEs and productivity.
  • Develops strategies to maintain effective business relationships with agency plant to attract, develop, and retain profitable business and manage agency performance through frequent agency interactions. Directs marketing & agency strategies to achieve profitable growth while utilizing incentives, promotions and contests in support of objectives, where appropriate, to achieve written premium and mix of business.
  • Maintains local legislative awareness with strong working knowledge of key and current judicial rulings, legal issues and lobbying efforts. Readily demonstrates understanding of key industry and competitive conditions, as well as the operations and challenges facing other parts of USRM and GRS. Anticipates future trends and challenges and develops and implements strategies to address opportunities. Uses experience, analytical abilities, and communications skills to contribute to the success of all businesses.
  • Directs resources utilization within area of responsibility, as well as across organization`s functions, to ensure that strategic initiatives are executed appropriately.
  • Ensures consistent service meets or exceeds agent and insured needs, while resolving escalated large-scale agency service or account issues to drive successful issue-resolution for customers and agency partners.
  • Works through Region Directors to motivate and ensure agency accountability to achieve written premium objectives and profitability goals, identify growth opportunities and make difficult decisions as necessary.
  • Understands and utilizes high level analytics including complex multivariate models. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity to identify trends, potential issues and their underlying causes. Effectively communicates sophisticated financial/actuarial data to varied audiences; appropriately tailors communications based on the audience.
  • Responsible for driving employee engagement by creating a culture of collaboration, supporting talent movement, ensuring development and performance management of all staff, ensuring talent pipeline is in place and creating coaching culture as a shared responsibility of all staff.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities, while emphasizing collaboration with other functional resources.

Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of independent agency channel experience within Commercial Lines and/or Personal Lines, including the management of P&L required
  • Bachelor`s Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance or a related field required; MBA and industry designation(s) desirable
  • Business knowledge is broad across the insurance industry (experience in multiple disciplines)
  • Proven successful Region Management experience including strong business acumen and understanding of agency business, solid track record of achieving results, people management and development, project management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly innovative and consistently demonstrates strong financial acumen
  • Strategic Orientation: demonstrated ability to conceptualize future environment, anticipate changes to successfully maximize opportunities and demands at the broadest levels
  • Ability to articulate financial results and impact of strategies to senior management
  • Executive Presence: Exudes a level of self-assurance that is honest and sincere while inspiring a sense of confidence from others
  • Possesses executive level presentation skills
  • Can determine key levers and priorities for large amounts of information and works through ambiguity with ease
  • Ability to lead through influence
