Job DescriptionProject Manager – Municipal Infrastructure (Vancouver/Burnaby)
AECOM’s Municipal Roads and Infrastructure group in our Burnaby office is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multidisciplinary design teams on planning and design projects for municipal transportation infrastructure. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in managing complex projects for municipal clients—including roads, active transportation, transit-supportive infrastructure, and utility servicing—and demonstrate strong client and stakeholder management skills within the Lower Mainland.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of municipal clients across Metro Vancouver, leading multiple concurrent projects.
- Oversee all phases of projects from initiation through close-out.
- Direct and coordinate project teams, ensuring deliverables meet municipal technical standards, schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
- Lead communication with municipal staff, elected officials, agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
- Review and approve technical work completed by junior and intermediate staff.
- Provide full project management oversight, including financial performance, schedule tracking, and scope control.
- Support business development, including building relationships with municipal clients, identifying opportunities, and preparing proposals and RFQs.
- Implement risk management strategies to minimize exposure to claims.
- Mentor and support technical staff development, providing input on staffing, performance, and career growth.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- P.Eng. designation with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and/ or PMP designation
- Minimum 6 years of experience managing municipal road and infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in municipal road design and project management.
- Knowledge of applicable municipal design standards and bylaws (e.g. TAC, MMCD, City of Vancouver and Burnaby standards).
- Familiarity with municipal capital project delivery processes and public consultation practices.
- Understanding of local permitting and approval processes.
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing proposals, reports, and public presentation material.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets and schedules for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Strong collaboration, mentoring, and leadership skills.
