As a Product/Process Engineer within Broadband Access Operations, this position provides the opportunity to own and shape the manufacturing lifecycle of passive optoelectronic products that enable reliable, high‑performance networks globally. This role offers meaningful technical ownership, global collaboration, and the ability to influence product quality, cost, sustainability, and scalability from introduction through high‑volume production.

How you will make an impact:
• Act as the manufacturing product authority for a portfolio of passive optoelectronic products, ensuring production readiness, reliability, and performance
• Define and maintain product structures, production requirements, and manufacturing processes in collaboration with Research and Development (R&D) and Supply Chain Operations
• Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), continuous improvement initiatives, and process optimization to improve yield, quality, and cost
• Own and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to proactively mitigate risk and enhance product robustness
• Lead knowledge transfer and training initiatives for contract manufacturer operators and engineers to support operational excellence
• Manage product lifecycle activities from launch through mass production, including yield tracking, bill of materials optimization, and cost reduction
• Partner with Test Engineering to develop automated analysis tools and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve manufacturing performance

The must haves:
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience in designing, manufacturing, or testing optoelectronic products
• Strong understanding of optical device principles, including lasers, modulators, detectors, optical sub‑assemblies, and transceivers
• Experience supporting high‑volume manufacturing environments with a focus on quality, reliability, and scalability
• Demonstrated expertise in product lifecycle management and product cost control
• Proven problem‑solving capability with the confidence to resolve complex technical issues locally and remotely
• Experience working effectively within global, cross‑functional teams
• Strong digital acumen with the ability to leverage data analysis and automation tools

Nice to haves:
• Advanced degree or professional certification in photonics or optoelectronics
• Knowledge of advanced packaging materials and recycling technologies
• Experience with automated test frameworks and statistical process control (SPC)
• Exposure to supplier and contract manufacturer management in a global manufacturing environment

Pay Range
The annual pay range for this position is $91, 800 - $146, 600

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
