The Process Safety / Risk Specialist is responsible for administering, stewarding, and supporting risk management throughout the expansive, and geographically diverse, Midstream Organization. If you have strong non-authoritative leadership and collaborative skills, we want to hear from you!

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10 years of relevant oil and gas industry experience in refinery, pipelines or distribution operations
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA
  • Understanding of EH&S best practices, policies and regulations
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and codes (API, ASME, CSA 662, PHMSA, CCME) and deviation processes
  • Familiarity with required jurisdictional codes and standards, i.e., ABSA, TSSA, TSBC, RBQ, T-Sask, PHMSA
  • Proficiency in Risk Management theory and software packages

Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert (SME) for Manage Operational Risk, supporting and facilitating risk assessments and control effectiveness activities within the Midstream Production Unit Teams
  • Supports the Site Process Lead (SPL) in conducting process health checks and audits, creating supporting materials, collaborating with Production Unit Teams, and leading and supporting risk management activities
  • Maintains and stewards a schedule for risk register reviews across all Midstream Production Unit Teams
  • Liaises closely with the Midstream Production Unit teams to plan and execute risk assessment and control effectiveness activities
  • Supports the strategic asset management planning and capital long-range planning processes by ensuring risks requiring mitigation are identified, documented, and prioritized across the Midstream Production Unit Teams, leveraging the Risk Scoring and Prioritization Tool
  • Supports Midstream emergency response activities across North America
  • Develops, maintains, and delivers Midstream-specific reporting tools and training materials
  • Acts as a mentor and coach in the development of risk assessment practitioners within the Midstream organization

Location & Other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
