RESPONSIBILITIES

The National Private Payer Manager (NPPM) is one of 2 NPPMs at Lilly Canada responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with priority private payers across Canada and delivering optimal access and reimbursement for Lilly brands in a timely manner.

The National Private Payer Manager (NPPM) has three primary responsibilities: 

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Canada’s private drug insurance carriers, national pharmacy benefit managers and key employers in Canada with the objective of optimal reimbursement for all Lilly products. 
  • In collaboration with cross functional teams (Corporate Affairs, Medical and, Pricing Reimbursement, Market Access (PRA) and Patient Support) develop access strategies and plans that will ensure that Canada’s private payer environment is receptive to Lilly products, smoothing the way for optimal and timely market access. 
  • The NPPM collaborates closely with the PRA Head Office team and supports the Sales/Marketing commercial teams to exceed annual brand access objectives.

Key deliverables:  

Private Payer Reimbursement - private insurers & PBMs & employers

  • Working in close partnership with the PRA Head Office team, the NPPM is accountable for the development and implementation of private payer access strategies for all new & existing Lilly brands.  
  • Provide guidance to the PRA Head Office team on Lilly private payer submissions to ensure they are delivered in a timely manner and exceed the requirements of private payer decision-makers/formulary committees. 
  • Collaborate with their NPPM colleague who have responsibilities for their respective private payers to ensure alignment on mutual brand access strategies and payer tactics.
  • The NPPM is responsible for the assessment and the improvement of private payer account business processes and capabilities and sharing with internal business partners. 
  • The NPPM is accountable for establishing and maintaining relationships with the decision makers and related stakeholders at Canada’s private insurers and PBMs. They must maintain a deep knowledge & understanding of reimbursement trends, processes, and drug plan designs for each unique private payer account. 
  • Where appropriate, the NPPM will develop and implement private payer programs in alignment with brand strategies to support enhanced reimbursement coverage. These programs include, but are not limited to, partnerships with private insurers, PBMs, and/or plan sponsors on patient compliance & disease awareness.  
  • This role has accountability for negotiations with private payers in close partnership with the PRA Head Office team.
  • The NPPM will support the work of Lilly’s cross-functional teams. Notably the role will work collaboratively with the PRA Head Office team, Stakeholder Engagement Managers (patient advocacy groups and professional associations) and the GR/Policy team by providing market insights on emerging private payer trends, monitoring private payer policy directions & where appropriate joint participation with customers to share Lilly’s view on important policy issues.  
  • Monitor trends in the private payer environment, share insights with PRA colleagues and advise commercial brand teams and senior leadership of potential access opportunities and challenges.

This role reports to the Associate Director, Market Access.

This NPPM role is field based (Ontario is preferred), with occasional travel to payer and stakeholder meetings across Canada as determined by the supervisor and business needs.

SKILLS

Education and experience: 

  • Science background with is an asset. Bachelor’s degree or higher is a requirement.
  • Min. 5-10 years of experience in Canada’s private drug insurance industry is preferred. 
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience in market access, sales, marketing and policy is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Lilly therapeutic areas of focus and brands an asset. 
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian private drug insurance and pharmaceutical industries and relevant private payer stakeholders.  

Individual Competencies:

  • At least one of the NPPM roles must be bi-lingual (fluent in French and English). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interact and influence diverse customer groups and positively represent Eli Lilly Canada at all times. 
  • Previous negotiation experience is preferred.  
  • Highly self-directed with strong initiative and high effort.  Well-developed communication skills will be necessary to appropriately share the clinical and economic value of Lilly medicines with prioritized stakeholders.  The ability to think strategically, analytically and problem solve for diverse issues is necessary. Highly developed organizational skills are a requirement. Bi-lingual is an asset.
