About the team:

The Smart Grid Technology Lab’s research focuses on Power electronics, Energy Management Systems and other Smart Grid Technologies, applying the latest technology to the digital power industry. The lab has become a research organization with many significant industry achievements.

About the job:

  • Design, implement, and maintain EMS software modules for substation control and monitoring.

  • Develop embedded software/firmware for substation controllers (RTUs, IEDs, gateways).

  • Work with protocol stacks (IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus) for integration into control systems.

  • Participate in system architecture design, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance of EMS platforms.

  • Develop control logic, communication drivers, and APIs for EMS / SCADA integration.

About the ideal candidate:

  • Hold a bachelor's or a Master's degree in the field of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or with a related background in power system protection and automation.

  • 3+ years of working experience in microgrid or distributed energy system development, including system design, simulation, or deployment. Experience with controllers/PLCs will be considered a valuable asset.

  • Proficiency with application-level development (RTOS, C/C++, Linux, FPGA/SoC platforms, etc.)

  • Proficiency with microcontroller firmware development (Raspberry PI, Arduino, ARM Cortex, etc.), embedded networking protocols & APIs (Modbus/TCP, DNP3/IP, SPI, OpenSSL, etc.).

Huawei aims to support a French-speaking work environment for its employees in Quebec. We have taken steps to avoid requiring a language other than French for this position. However, proficiency in English is essential for this role for the following reasons:

The person will be required to communicate regularly with colleagues located outside Quebec, where English is the primary language used for communication between offices. In addition, the nature of the tasks related to this position, which falls within a highly specialized field of artificial intelligence, also requires knowledge of English.
